Panhard Bar
Just wanted to see if any of the A&C guys might be interested in a panhard bar. I got this from A&C. Just didn't feel like I needed it after all. No plans to race my car, so it does fine with the 4 link. A&C asks $125 + shipping.
I'm asking $75 free shipping, with all brackets to install. Only used for maybe 50 miles.
I can post more pics if needed.
Thanks
Joey

Joey, You HAVE to run a panhard bar, it's not an option, or a race only item. The panhard bar is what keeps your rear end from sliding out from under your car.

Like Tim said, the panhard bar is a required piece of a parallel 4-link suspension.
The axle has to be located laterally and the 4- links cannot do that except for a very minor degree.Without the bar there is no direct lateral restraint for the axle. A lateral force would put stress on the links themselves, and the joints at each end.
This movement will bind the suspension and will lead to failure of a link and/or the bushing/rod ends.
Bottom line....put it back on and enjoy better safer handling.

Joey:
Let me tell you a story.
I have adjustable 4 link in my A & C. Links not from Joe.
I took a left turn pretty hard one day and the next thing I know the car was tracking very strange. I got out and noticed the rear tires were no longer equal to the side of the car. The whole rear end shifted over to the left.
Here I broke one of the welded ends of the adjustable link.
If one of the links fail do to extreeme side load from taking a turn too aggressively the rear end will move like mine did.
I put a panard bar in similar to what you have after I got the adjustable link fixed.
Since then no issues.
I would keep it, why take it off.

Use of this is NOT an option. If you are driving it this way.....you are on borrowed time until it comes out from under you.

Putting the link on top of the rear end on a short wheel base car is not a good idea, it will lift the outside tire off the ground in a hard turn, that will cause sever over steer.

Panhard Bar
Wow everyone is quick to help. I spoke to Joe today, who manufactures this car. He said you do not HAVE to have the panhard bar with a triangular 4-link, it is an OPTION. Bad luck with the weld could cause a problem, I understand that. The bar is designed by Joe to go just as the picture shows.

Panhard Bar
Got a email from a concerned fellow cobra owner, lets just say I'm putting it back on the car.
Thanks for all the input.

Joey:
Before I put the adjustable links in place, I had the big thick aluminum bars Joe provised as standard with his kit. Using those it might not be a problem, but like I said with the adjustable links you sacrifice some strength for the side to side forces and reaction forces.
Good decision to leave it.
