400 flywheel hp in these cars will have you running 12's all day long, not low 11's. Doesn't mean you won't have fun though. Cheers.

We run drag radials on all our cars here. You always need more power

Way back 20 plus years ago I witnessed a dyno run of a NOS 427 that came out of a crate,
it was suppose to be a 425HP version that was "under rated" no matter what carb or how much timing they put into it, the best they saw was 410 HP, so I really don't believe cobras had as much HP as we would like to believe they had, I figure it is just like anything else over the years the numbers just get bigger and bigger, every time the story is told.

yup.... just listen to guys in the stands at the drags .. There best one is "My car dyno'd 600hp" . Then continued to run a high 12 @ 110 mph. Oh... "Track can't hold my power"

I ran 12s in a 3500lbs z28 making 350hp. If u cannot break into 11s in a car under 2700lbs with 400hp, there is a problem with the car and/or driver.

Respectfully, being capable of breaking into the 11's is not the same as running low 11's all day long. Most of our cars are set up for handling, many have notchy shifting transmissions (such as a TKO), only a minority run drag radials, track prep is a big factor, and as you stated there is the driver skill factor.

Most Cobras run 12's. I'm not one of them, but it's the norm. Cheers.

The majority of BB Cobras had pretty mild 428s making @ 355hp.The cars that won all the races had 12:1 comp, Weber-carbed 289s making less than 400 hp.

That is the name of the game. Very few Cobras at the drags do anything good. Very disappointing to watch them. You have to be able to hook and shift (unless ya have a auto in it)

I met a fellow with a FFR with a 4.6 DOHC 32 valve Modular in it, at a drag strip during the London Ohio Cobra show. Bone stock ~280 Hp. I was shocked at how slow it was. My memory is shot, but it seems like it was running high 13's.

It was very new (nice car) and he wasn't beating on it hard. I'm sure it could have done a 1/2 second faster.

Hot Fingers is running in the 9's. He knows drag racing and he knows how to set up the suspension to transfer weight to the back wheels. He is running an automatic. I'm thinking he is somewhere near 600 ponies or more. He could enlighten us a bit on this subject, if he sees this.

680hp (on the dyno) and enough torque to loose traction applying half throttle in 4th gear at 50mph when changing lanes to overtake a truck - when the tires are cold.

Once you got the hang of it, you can put your foot all down after a turn (in 2nd gear) and accelerate sideways until you shift into 3rd (at 100 mph)...

350 hp is enough.

Lol! How did you know?

Tire availability was bad in Germany then. Traction was much better with Hoosier Street TDs..

Just watched Bob's Cobra. That is one fast car, let alone a cobra.
Very nice.

I've had one with a 347 that made 449 at the flywheel, super fun car. Now I have one with a BB 427, Not exactly sure of the HP, the builder in FL. pegged it between 450 and 460. But my what a different feel with the BB. Personal taste I would like to have a 408 stroker motor in mine.

I am building a FFR roadster right now so I have a short understanding on this subject. I purchased a Kieth Craft 408 street/strip motor with TKO600 tranny. It dynod at 512 hp and 534 ft-lb on 91 octane gas. I am running FAST EFI. I just put the body on for the final time so I have about 150 construction miles on it. One sentence - TOO MUCH POWER. I plan on using mine for runs in the mountains and I would like 150-200 hp less. It's scary!!

Arvin, I feel with time behind the wheel you'll get used to it. Sounds like an awesome setup
