I broke the welds holding the 4 pipes together. I cut slits in each pipe, swedged in the inserts that came with the pipes and used these clamps

STAINLESS STEEL BAND CLAMPS
Look better and outperform conventional muffler and exhaust clamps
304-stainless steel withstands high heat and resists rust, corrosion to look better longer
Creates a 360° leakproof seal
Securely hold exhaust pipes without crushing them—no restriction of smooth exhaust flow. Constructed for all exhaust systems. 3" wide band clamp completely covers exhaust pipe joints. Hardware is pre-attached for easy installation. Grade 8 bolts included for a vibration-resistant joint. Choice of 4 pipe sizes.

I believe I cut slits in the sidepipes. I put the adapters in the header and, using a cheap little swedging tool, expanded the adapter while inside the header slightly. This caused them to stick tight inside the header.

Default pipes to header

Neil,

Quite some time ago I posted pics of how I fastened my sidepipes to the headers. The title of the post is sidepipes to headers.

I'll try to post a link to the earlier post. If it doesn't come through do a search for the title of the post.
