A&C Seats

How are the A&C Seats compared to some of the others on the market? I have to decide on my interrior and was wondering if I should consider some other seats.

I have never spent any time in a A&C Cobra to have a clue. You just cant tell a thing by sitting on your frame.

Hi aaron i have leather seats from a&c. which are fine. i may make some brackets to tip them so the front of the seat is up an 1" or so. but there is a lot of seats avaliable for them. by the way hows things in corning? i used to live in wellsboro Pa. i visit home a couple times a year. welll good luck on your cobra. I used the Cobra Classic seat which affords a bit more lateral support. I bolted them directly with no rails. Very comfortable and snug.

The leather seat from A&C is excellent in quality and construction. There seems to be many color choices as well.

Roscoe: Seats?

I know I've asked you before about your seats. I really want to change to a different seat than the leather ones I have from A & C. If I remember you had to do something to them to get them to fit because they are wider. I know JohnPolling in Ft. Wayne actually cut down the width of his transmission tunnel and fabricated a new thinner one to accomodate those seats.
How did you do it and how did you mount them? What does the bottom of the seat look like, A & C's is a fiberglass shell that I attached the adjusters to on a width I thought was about right them layed out the adjuster to floor mounting screws, put a 1-1/2" spacer in front and a 3/4" spacer in back and then bolted to the floor with large washers unders the fiberglass floor.
Does your seats give you good support under your legs and lower back? I know there seems to be good lateral support.
Just looking for as much info on the mounting before I decide to order. Do not want to modify tunnel like John did.

Aaron: if I decide on the new seats you can always pick up my leather A & C seats pretty cheap since I won't need them. The passenger seat looks like new but the drivers seat looks like someone has been sitting in it for 10,000 miles, they are black leather by the way. I maybe even selling the adjusters with them depending on what the bottom of the Cobra seats looks like.
Roscoe any help would be appreciated, like always. Pic's too especially during build if you have any, like the bottom of the seat or how the fit between the tunnel and the sides.

Jim,

The only modification I did was to the passenger seat. If you look at the pic above, right where the seat belt is on the passenger/tunnel side, I took a BFH (big fuquing hammer) and gave it a whack or two. I did use a piece of 2x4 between the hammer and seat, maybe with a piece of cloth on the seat side. I only had to whack it in about 1/2" or so. Nobody notices but me. No modification to the drivers side. The seats have a steel tubular frame so they are easy to bend.

Now, moving the seat cushion away from the sides will expose a piece of square tubing on each side of the seat that runs from back to front. This is where the mounting holes will go. I drilled through the tubing and through the floor and mounted the seat right to the floor. I used 4 bolts per seat/two on each side.

The seats give you great support but could use a 'slight' more lumbar support. They are not by any means uncomfortable but for rides over 3-4 hours I'd roll up a small towel. When it comes time to recover I'd have the guy build it up a bit.

The whole seat mounting process went smooth and uneventful.

Actually, I think the mounting holes are already there. Don't really remember. I might have just placed the seat on the floor and drilled through the holes in the tubing and through the floor.

Roscoe: did you tip them back a bit with a spacer up front?
How is the vinly covering wearing after almost 4 years?

Aaron: any interest in the A & C leather seats once I get them out?

Nope. Did not tip them, although you can if you want. Vinyl is fine with no signs of wear after over 20k miles.

Thanks guys. I just talked with Sonny and ordered the body package so I will be getting the A&C seats.

My body will actually be ready before the month is out so I guess I need to get to work.

Good Luck, let us know if you need any advice. I go thru Corning once and awhile when I call on Customers near Elmira, or stop by the Finger Lakes for some wine tasting.
