Registration?????? in New York
Hi guys,
I Posted this same question a few days ago but it never showed up, so here it goes again.
I am slowly gaining ground on my build and starting to wonder what hoops I am going to have to jump through to register my A&C in NY. Do any of you have any insight on this process? Is there any short-cuts or any reputable firms that help with such things? I have a good clean registration for a 66 ford Mustang that I used for parts in my build, is that usuable or am I just asking for legal trouble? Any information will be appreciated. Thanks, Sam

Hi,
Call this number and ask about the complete process including emissions and safety features that you will need. Don't for get to ask about a VIN. NYS will send you a package of information after you talk to these guys, follow the instructions to the letter and have all of your paperwork and invoices.

Trust me, it's worth the inital pain to have a properly registered car in NYS.

Sam,
Your other post was probably on the temporary server that ClubCobra was using for a few days. Your post probably just got lost in the shuffle.
Mike about covered it all.
One other suggestion, ask "hot rod" folks around your local area which DMV office/clerk close to you is "friendliest" for stuff like this. In other words which one do they use. This is for "just in case" you have some minor issue that another office might be picky about, that a "friendly" office may let slide.
It should go fine for you. NYDMV is not great, but they are pretty good, and they sure are a lot better than places like California to deal with in general.
Don't forget to post pics here when you are done.
Good luck!
Cheers!
Dave

Sam, looks like you got a good response :-)
If you run into a snag, just post back here on the forum, and you will get the help you need. All of us that have posted a response here so far have gone through the NYS customer vehicle VIN and registration process themselves.
Enjoy the build, and keep us posted as to your progress!!!
(and do yourself a BIG favor - please don't use the Mustang reg......)

Thanks for the great info!
I have another question, well two, for all of you. What do your registrations and or titles refer to your cars as being? 64-65-66 or 67 Fords? Cobras? 2006 homebuilts? It really dosent matter, I am just curious. The other question is what companies do you have for insurance coverage on your Cobras. Thanks again for the good info, Sam

Sam,
Your registration will show the vehicle year using the year that the VIN was assigned. The registration will describe the vehicle as "Custom". My registration reads "2005 Custom".
My Superformance is insured through Allstate, with full coverage. Rates are reasonable (I have multiple vehicles and home coverage) and I have no restrictions on miles or where/how I drive it (I am 53 with clean license).
Hope this helps,

Sam, might want to also consider the implications of insurance fraud . felony, and the associated penalties/denial of claims if the registration is a Ford and the vehicle is actually a replica or kit car.

Padded Dash and Muffler requirements in NY
Hey Guys,
What about the padded dash requirement in NY on DMV form MV-529?. I've seen all kinds of dash material used (not necessarily in NY though). And what about the muffler requirements? It doesn't seem like my sidepipes will pass the "effectively reduce the noise" requirement on this form. Am I being overly concerned about these issues?

Call Joe at A&C and ask him what he did to pass the inspection. The rules on the dash and other things can be bent. A simple piece of carpet on the top of the dash will get you past, then remove it after the inspection. Have Joe fill you in on how he got his car and others to pass.

DMV Packet Worries
Hi Guys,
I just got my package from DMV, read it and now I'm wondering how in the world am I going to make this work. It asks for DOT #s of all the lights, none of the marker/tail lights have any! It says I could need catalitic conveters, air pump, EGR, etc.depending on engine year. Well, I just recieved my crate 460 from Ford. This already appears like its going to be a nightmare and require me to change the car to somthing I didnt want in the first place and the DOT list goes on, how did you guys deal with this stuff?

Sam,
Your emissions will be based on the year of the block. That's why so many guys get early 70's and late 60's engines rebuilt. As far as the markers go, e-mail me.
