Default Registration

Hi, I just bought a Backdraft from Radical Roadsters of Texas. When I go to register her in Tucson will I have to pay any sales tax and will I be able to register as a 65 Cobra? Any info would be great on how to do this.Thanks..

You will have to pay sales tax as the exemption only applies to cars purchased from private paties. That assumes that you did not already pay the tax in Texas, if you did you need to have itr refunded by the state of Texas. That assumes that you did not drive it or get Texas plates.

Go to the MVD office, they have a book that has pictures of all kinds of cars. The Cobra will be in there and if it looks like a duck in AZ it is.. They will register it as a 64 if it is a slab side car or a 65 if it is a 427 car. Either way, you won't be there for very long. You need to have a vin certification which they do outside first....

Plates will be about $25- as they will call it a 65 as opposed to the $500 - $1000 that they should be as it is a new car... It is all very simple and straightforward..

If you paid out of state tax just bring proof and that will be fine.
If you didn't pay tax in the other state you will have to pay 5.6% state tax at MVD.

8.1% would be state and city tax but the MVD only collects state tax.

Strange, I didn't pay any sales tax on either of my cars. One was purchased in Mo. and the other in Ca. Both were purchased from private parties.

Private party sales have no tax at all in Arizona,(yet).
Dealer sales require tax payment.

Correct, bringing my 56 F100 from california, private purchase, no sales tax.
Plates will be registerd same as it was in Texas. Even Arizona won't re-register over another state, place of origin rules.
