Roush 511 IR FE performance history
There have been several posts regarding the Roush 511 engine, some are good, some are bad, some are horror stories. According to Roush, 33 of these engines have received serial numbers so it seems like a worthy endevor for Cobra Club members who own one these engines to provide their experiences, linked to serial number, so we can get a picture of the overall performance history.
Having such information available will, IMHO, offer some compelling background information for forum memebers who may be considering such a purchase.
BTW current selling price for this engine is 40 large.
So anyone want to let it all hang out? tin-man

Yeah man, just anyone in TX will do. All Texans know FEs better than those Roush posers! It's the lamos from AZ that you have to watch out for.
Actually I'm pretty sure Dan means Keith Craft, which would be my choice as well.

To my knowledge 6(including yours Tin Man) of the 33 are right here in the Phoenix area. I have not heard from anyone else on the forum that has one outside of Az. i would love to though to compare notes. At least if someone else has had good luck with theirs it would give me some hope!

SN 014 just went into the shop and will most likely ship back to Livonia for warranty repairs soon. Still troubleshooting what the issue(s) is/are. Symptoms were blowing smoke out the left sidepipe and then high oil usage. Had about 7000 miles on it without problems since new (other than needing the EFI dialed in at 100 miles).

If you are going to bash Roush you could at least spell it right.

My bad.. I thought Keith Craft had moved the entire operation to Plano. I guess the engine shop is still in Arkansas. So call Arkansas.

It's not my intention to BASH anyone. I'm merely pointing to the only connection I have with this company. I understand that the man has a reputation for being brilliant and innovative. The recent performance of the company that carries his name is attrocious. The failure to communicate with their customers, the poor performance of thier products speaks volumes of what the company is apparently about. You would think that when you take $40K for a motor that doesn't work for months, you would do everything you could to prevent your customers from being unhappy. If it were me, I would demand my money back or take them to court.

SandyC,
I saw your car yesterday. Spoke to Charlie about what it was in for and it sounds like what happened to mine. Sounds like the rings. Since Roush had mine out and went through it, things have been great. I know running the thin weight oil they recommend, you will burn an little and loose a little which is normal but yours is doing what mine did. Is Charlie doing a leak down test? Keep us posted. They will take care of you. Mine is there to have the urethane motor mounts put in form Olthoff. But it's running great. Now I have the carb not the 8 stack.

Hi Tim, Good to hear from you. I am curious why the other motor mounts? What advantage can be gained by them?
Thanks

As far as I know they are still troubleshooting. It could be rings and/or valve guides (just my theory right now). When I brought the car to them Charlie ran his finger inside the left sidepipe and his finger came out dripping with oil. I used a quart of oil driving it from my house to their shop which is about 45 miles. The strange thing is that it still ran great, hah! In fact I had a guy in a new Dodge Charger try to take me on on the freeway driving to the shop and as I was checking the oil pressure gauge every 10 seconds I was thinking, Not now man.
Yup, I'm confident they'll get 'er fixed up under warranty. Will obviously take some time though.

Ron,
These motors have so much torque the side pipes were starting to touch the body. The stiffer mounts will prevent that and not wear like the rubber ones over time that will loosen up. They are on the car and it will be at Hot Rods by Dean till about mid week. Check them out if you can get by. I have wanted to do them for a while now and finally did. They are an improvement.

I am looking forward to using some of that torque and doing my best to wear them out! I will keep that in mind and add to the potential upgrade list
Thanks

SandyC,
Charlie told me that. Mine was just smoking when you got on it. I did not have that amount of oil in the pipe. You definitely have something going on.
