Default Need help! Streetbeast (?) Cobra w/ no MSO

I just picked up a kit that is in the early stages of build. I dont have a MSO but I do know it has the same frame as the Streetbeasts kit. What should I do for registration? I don't want to put all the work into this if I wont be able to get this titled. I want to track it but use it on the street as well.

Thanks,
Doug

Don't worry about it. Its a "home made" frame isn't it? Sure it is.

By the time I'm done rewelding everything that is bad or missing, I could probably consider it mine. It would be like an assembly of scrap material that I used for the build up. =)

Is scratch built that easy for registration?

Scratch build is probably easier to register than a factory built frame. You might be well advised to keep your receipts for the major expenditures and take them with you when you go to get it titled, but do not offer to give them anything that they don't ask for.

Yes, after I bought it. The price I paid was less than the accesories that came with it. I'm not too concerned about their reputation because I am able to fab up anything they screwed up myself. Worst thing for me is the missing trunk lid.

I looked at one pic and thought, "That looks like a bucket of scrap iron!"

Then I realized that it WAS a bucket of scrap iron!

Good luck and may the force be with you...

Sure looks like a homemade frame to me.

Good luck with the project!

Default Seriously...

There's no sense in just bashing on Streetbeasts, but is there any point at all in trying to get help from them? They're still in business, right? They still have their web site: http://www.streetbeasts.com/index.php and I'm pretty sure they're still in my Street Rodder mags.

I've called them with no answer and sent them an e-mail saying that I needed to order more stuff hoping they would jump on that but still nothing at this time.

Supposedly, there is a 200 page assembly manual for the Streetbeasts Cobra. I would hope somebody on this forum with a Streetbeasts would be kind of enough to make you a copy -- that would be helpful. Fabbing the missing trunk lid will be tricky, but not impossible.

It is not hard to register without an MSO, but you need to keep receipts from the build to submit, DMV wants to see them. They will most likely require a bonded title (about $300.00). That was the process in 2008 when I went thru it.

contact your local DMV office and ask questions NOW about what you need and how you go about getting a title for your pile....of parts....and yes you should have done this BEFORE you jumped the gun and spent your dollars......good luck and keep us posted on your "journey".

I don't think it will be a problem. The DMV will just issue a VIN number and register the vehicle. That's what they did with my first car. THey didn't want to use the CCX number so they issued a new VIN.

Thanks for the advise. I will go there soon but it seems like they always have a different story based on the position of the moon or something. I will get a name on this situation though.

as you consider how to register it with the various options---consider which way it will have more resale-----A homebuilt title won't be worth as much as a homebuilt Shelby, especially on E-Bay, etc
