dumb assed question
Water pump for a ford 302 has a backing plate. Does this plate need gaskets on both sides? One gasket for the timing cover side and another for the pump.

Just make sure that you put the correct gasket on the correct face of the plate. They are marked 'inner' & 'outer' so you should be right.
