1. The global warming has localized itself to Arizona.

2. All the illegal immigrants make it hotter there.

3. It's all the chilli peppers you guys eat.

4. The oil spill in the gulf is having global affects on the weather

5. Sheriff Joe Arpaio likes it that way

6. .....

7. .....

8. .....

9. .....

10. It's summer in Arizona

But it's a dry heat, so it's not that hot.

The cacti make it hot. They are cold suckers and store all the cold in their stems and roots.

I was stationed at Williams AFB near Chandler back in 83-85 and again in 89-92. During my second stint, they set a new record high temperature at the Phoenix airport of 123 degrees. Have they upped it since then?

Nope. That's still the record. I remember that day. The black top in the parking lot stuck to the soles of my shoes when I walked to my car.

Shortly after that they moved the official thermometer to a location that was 4 degrees cooler on average.

The T-38s I flew then called it a day between 9 and 10 AM because it was too hot for a single engine takeoff if one engine failed. I'm sure it was similar for the big airlines. One discount airline whose name escapes me now, had apparently purchased takeoff data only for temperatures up to 120 degrees. They were the ones who had to stop when it got hotter than that. As best I recall, the low temperature those days was in the lower to mid 90s.

In the years since then I've told friends about how hot it was in the desert with these words. Here in the southeast we talk about how uncomfortable it is to get in a car on a hot day. In the desert you talk about how painful it is to the touch. It's a whole different level of hot.

You know what though, when it gets hot here, women wear less!
And that's a good thing!

Arizona is supposed to be hot. Isn't that where they used to tell people with tuberculous to move to because of the dry heat?

I flew to Phoenix in mid-June of 1994 to inspect my nearly completed Cobra prior to it being trucked to me in Maryland. I remember standing on the ashphalt of a convenience store gassing up the rental car. The ambient that day was 112 degrees. Good gosh it was hot! Someone told me the day before it reached 116 degrees.

I could live there from about December through maybe April.

It ain't hot in AZ, it's fine as long as you wear shoes when you walk between noon and
5:00 PM.

Default Hot?

One old native Zonie said to me one day, " It wasn't hot here til all these damn people moved here and started complaining about it all the time". He was an asphalt contractor........

Now, Tell me this....
Where else, can you go to work, put in a full day, get in your car to go home, and your coffee is still hot .

I lived in the Imperial Valley in the early 80s.

We used to go to Arizona to cool off.
