Default Hot air leak

What is the best way to keep engine heat from coming into the car? I have a FFR Mk III, and the heat that comes in is hot. The heat is coming in from the space next to the door, Ive put a towel in there, really doesnt work. Can you use the spray foam, from under the car to spray in that void, spray says do not use where there is heat over 240*. Any ideas.

I tried a number of differant ways. This year I used some expanding foam insulation. I put it all around the door. In the front to keep engine heat out. And along the bottom and rear to keep water from the wheel well out. Seems to work pretty good. A little black paint and you can't even tell it's there.

It's easy. Get some of that black foam for insulating water pipes at Home Depot or Lowes and push it into the space between the body and footboxes - both sides. You can use a stick to get it further than your hand will reach. Or, some guys use pool noodles the same way. For you, I recommend the pink pool noodles to go with the skull on your car.

Did he paint his skull pink? Do Don and Diana know about that? Diana has always wanted a pink Cobra.. Or a pearl yellow one, whichever.

Hey Pete, great color, pink. Has anyone used that spray foam, I just could not get those , pink things in far enough to stop the leak. Do you need to take off the side vents to put the pink thing in?

Is this a good question? Pete, started it with his pink thing, I was just asked a simple question, about how for in to put those pink things to plug a void.

Well, it really depends on the size of the void, most pink things generally fit and can plug the void, unless of course they are of the little worm variety, or conversly if its a really big void in which case you would be advised to use expanding foam to control the heat. Generally expanding foam is the absolute best way to plug a big void. That said, if you have to go thru all at that trouble, it would be advisable to measure the void first and guess at the amount of foam you would need. You may just want to pass and consider another project that is more suitable for the equipment you have.

Thanks for all of the info TinMan.
The problem is the void gets me hot , just want to fill the void. Where in Sun City West do you live? We belong to Briarwood CC, at 135th and Meeker. Oh , getting back to the void, will the foam work, or is that to close to the heat from the engine. The temp on the can says nothing over 240*, the heat coming off the engine is more than that. Do they make a foam designed for more heat?

Sure, Skully, remove the side louvers if they are removable (mine are held on with Velcro for this reason). Otherwise, push the foam pipe insulation in from the front of the footbox. The space gets smaller as you go to the rear so the insulation will compress and hold.

The only issue with the expanding foam. To much can cause bulging issues with the body. The pipe insulation is probably the best thing.

Hey guys, Mikiec is absoultely correct. The foam does expand and during the MKi and MKII years there were a lot of stories about guys who had used the foam and it had expanded and did some cracking of the fiberglass. The use of the grey hot water pipe insullation from Lowes or Home Depot is possibly the best idea. Don't try to install it while laying on the ground and pushing it up between the body and frame area. Find a friend with a lift and get the car in the air, you will find that the installation is redicalously (sic) easy. Also, once the car is in the air you'll be able to better understand and see what you are trying to fix.

Skully, Corte Bella, four weeks outa the year, the rest of the time in China, regarding the foam, my understanding is there is a foam available that is used on the shuttle rentry vehicle and the temperatures get red hot depending on the angle of the re-entry. Not sure of the actual temperatures but hot nonetheless, sometimes causing a melt down. I understand Dann55 may work in the aerospace industry and may have knowledge on this, perhaps he may want to weigh in on this topic? Danr55? tin-man

You could fill it with concrete. Concrete is fireproof and will filll all of the voids.

I was using concrete for not only its insulating value but it also was good balast to slow my car down to FoMoCo levels, but you see what that got me. Brocus Bodius. I'm not using it on the new body rebuild. I'll jut let er rip.
