Top Gear

If you watched the new Top Gear, what did you think of it?

grybrd123 11-21-2010 08:50 PM

I watched it. I was glad to see Lance's #98 SPF Daytona Coupe at the beginning, but they never mentioned it or looked at it, not even to say what it was. I thought the show in general was OK, but giving a half hour Lambo ad was way over the top.

Not as good as the original, but maybe it will gel over the next few weeks.

What happened to Richard, Jeremy, and James , from the original show, I guess they are finished , what a shame , they were funny , I hope the new guys have a funny bone. The people in studio looked like they were hoping for a funnier show too.

grybrd123 11-21-2010 09:21 PM

Nothing happened to them. The show that was just on was the AMERICAN version, filmed here with US folks. The UK Top Gear is still on BBC.

Cheers

Wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

zrayr 11-22-2010 06:05 AM

so far the American's are lacking in chemistry compared to the Brits. I saw an interview with Jeremy where he was asked why the BBC show was so popular, even with people who weren't car enthusiast. He replied. "... it's the chemistry, we truly hate each other, and it shows..." very funny. I wouldn't recommend hating your co-hosts as a way of producing a successful show, but it definitely works for them.

Z.

Alot of dead time with sitting in a car wash, and other silly stuff. The viper was impressive. They talked about the cobra but never even started it. Kinda boring.

That's exactly right. TG (the british version) is the only car show that my wife will watch.

Jamo 11-22-2010 10:50 AM

Yup...my wife loves the BBC version...funny watching her describing the antics of the Hamster and Jeremy and Capt. Slow to her female buddies (who are usually clueless).

They should've brought Paul Tracy over with Tanner...the two of them mix it up pretty good. If nothing else, Tracy could've been the impolite cousin of Stig who won't STFU.

It'll grow on us... I just hope they do a tour of Birmingham, etc. and repay the Brits for their southern cruise post-Katrina.

Now if I want to clear the room I put on a recorded "Two Guys Garage." Even the dog gets up and leaves when I do that.

Jamo 11-22-2010 10:57 AM

I do that by turning on Slow's toy show...which has some great episodes and some which are utter crap.

Obviously your dog doesn't approve of those guys putting tubeS upon tubeS of Permatex everywhere:LOL:

Kzof 11-22-2010 11:42 AM

Please leave it to the 3 Brits.

Got the Bug 11-22-2010 12:54 PM

Funny...my wife also enjoys the BBC version. She really has no interest in any other car related shows.

Adam Carolla did the original pilot. I think he would have been good, but he had some conflicts at the time.

twobjshelbys 11-22-2010 06:51 PM

I watched it when I got home.

I thought it was OK. I'll watch it again. In all I liked it better than the Supercars show, although I think the 1/2 hour timeslot might be more appropriate for the material.

Those Lambos were wicked. I can't believe they drove them on the standing mile without a suit, 5 point restraints and helmet. And the Viper still holds first place.

DonC 11-22-2010 08:20 PM

Thought is was just o.k. I'll watch a couple more before I decide for sure if it's worth it.
Pretty disappointed in the Viper VS Cobra part. I've got several thousand hours flying Cobras and in the real world the three killls by the Cobra would have been done before they got off the airfield and they wouldn't have had to waste the expensive Hellfires to do it, just the chain gun. I guess it makes for good Hollywood though.

Skully 11-22-2010 08:50 PM

That chin gun would have made the show.

LoBelly 11-22-2010 11:35 PM

The Australian version sucked at first but they seem to be improving their range...

I think there might also be a German version going by a repeat I saw on the BBC chanel - [edit googled and discovered D-Motor]

Would be interested to see the US version - can you view it on-line somewhere? - anyone got a link...

Outwest34au 11-23-2010 02:02 AM

Yeah, found a link, but because we are in "this area" it isn't available.

I'm keen to see it also if anyone can suggest another source???

And, YES, the Aussie version struggled but came back. It's hard to expect total impact like BBC TG.

I for 1 am hoping they do some good OLD muscle cars on the US version

Trevor Legate 11-23-2010 05:47 AM

Jamo

If your guys ever tour Birmingham they'll die of boredom first!!!!!
