Many moons ago I had a weedeater stolen out of my garage. I assumed it happened in the morning when I would walk the dog and leave the garage door open. I had a little boat at the time on one side of the garage. Every morning same routine, open garage door, lay in boat, wait for a visitor, nobody ever came. You cant win them all, but you can try.

My neighbor attorney finally saw me crawl out one moring and asked what I was doing, he thought I must be working on the boat, once I told him he said "make sure you kill them" it sure makes defense alot easier LOL!!!!!!!!!

I've never been a fan of fake key rocks. I think I'd find a different place to hide my key, and maybe put a little "surprise" in the fake rock for anyone that's poking around when they shouldn't be.

I agree the fake rock or bunny in this case is not a good idea. This hide a key was located in the back yard. They got into the back yard over a 6 foot block fence or locked gate if the gardner or housekeepers are not involved !!!!

Now the old hide a key has a video camera watching as well as all possible home entry points. I chose hidden cameras with a very visible main entry model. The old security system did not have video ability so it has all been updated. A new feature allows recording when housekeeping and gardner are here to see if they are a problem. A new key locker has been bolted to the wall with touch pad security to secure the new key. An expensive approach for sure and a damn shame it is all needed.

Default Did you touch the key??

vettesr If you didn't touch the key that was return you have finger prints on it. As far as killing or stopping a home thief, each state is different. You could end up in jail and sued. He's dead but bet he has family.. As far as a spare key, keep it in your wallet. or when you are going to the house. @ pad locks on both channels of the garage door is a good place to start. Having the neighbors keep and eye on the house is worth a $25.00 dinner card every year. Bars and floor locks are the best way to stop home thiefs from breakin in. Curtains on all main floor windows. Radio and light on timer also good idea. rotate cars in driveway. I save the best for myself. I like the hand gerenade on a door knob one myself. Rick L.

Interesting discussion..........
Security is important, especially if your in the house sleeping..keep the big gun close by and shoot to kill.
On the other hand, crooks can get into anything..that's their business and some are good t it. Best to have good insurance and all the mechanical security devices possible, along with having good relations with the neighbors.
I just caught a guy that totaled my $600. mail box (hit and run) because a neighbor saw what happened and followed the bad guy home.
Nothing I have is worth going to prison for, or dieing for, except the Cobra....Um...perhaps my wife qualifies too.....Hmmmmm.

The big mental issue here is this is my folks home. Technically my wifes mom and dad but still feel helpless to do much more since I am not there in person 24/7.
Dad is a retired Chief, Federal Marshal Service and a bad ass who went through his share of doors in his day. When bad guys screw with your parents or your kids it just puts you in a game on frame of mind.

PS.... watched recent video of maids and gardner's without any signs of wrong doing.
