Tucson, AZ. drive to Tombstone on 3-5-11
On Saturday, March 5th, the Tucson Cobra guys will meet at Valencia and I-10 between 9:45 am and 10:00 am. We'll drive to Sonoita, and Tombstone for lunch (76 miles). The return trip will be via Benson and I-10 ( 60 miles). The weather will be in the upper 70's so bring sunscreen, a hat, and a long sleeved shirt.

Karl, Fitz is kinda' correct because we will be driving thru the wine country ( Elgin) to get to Tombstone. You are correct in that Tombstone is wiskey country.

Fantastic ! For me it was 231 miles. For the others it was about 200 miles. The temps were cool as we started and became much cooler in Sonoita, 5,000' elev. From there into Tombstone it was a quick 40 miles and warmed as we went back down in elevation. Tombstone was crowded but not so bad that we didn't find a place to eat and drink. I am continiously surprised at the folks that live in Tucson who have never been to Tombstone. From there we returned to Sonoita and Larry hosted us at his home where we looked at and sat in his collection of real Indy race cars. Once back on I-10 we had to shed the heavy clothing and setteled into the beginings of summer and the 80 degree temps. No one had any problems and we are planning two more drives into that general area.

Glad you had a great time.
We also did about 200 miles on our run to Jakes Corner.

Hi Danr55, Our next drive will be down to Fort Huachuca to visit the museum there. I was there about ten years ago and I understand that it has changed a lot. Beside the origional museum which was about the "Buffalo Soldiers", there are now two other buildings with new displays, one bringing in the inteligence sector which is it's current use. The other drive will be to Elgin to visit the wineries. I'm holding off on that until the frost is over and the vines start to leaf out. I will keep you posted about dates and times.
