willing to look up info on 2169
Hey Gang,
Does anybody have ability to pass on info of 2169? A family friend worked for SAI back in the day. He owned a Cobra and a couple GT350 cars. I have photos of these cars in my Album but would love to know the history or info on the Cobra after he sold the car. Where or how can you read up on a specific car if you do not have a Registry? Do any in our local group have a copy and willing to give me an update? Any chance a library would have this or other sources to learn about a specific car? Any help or direction would be appreciated here. THANKS Jeff C |
Hey Jeff, I'd bet a beer that you can find some history on Google. BTW bringing my baby home from the body shop tomorrow afternoon. WooHoo. Now just have to install the engine, transmission, interior, electrical, cup holders, thumper stereo, AC, 28" wheels etc. etc.

Dont forget the curb feelers and dingle balls from the rear view mirror!

Karl is so old he'll need to install a medicine chest and a defibrillator.

The fact your baby is coming home has to be a great thing. I look forward to seeing her back on the road and kickin butt. I followed your advise about checking google but was not impressed. I found a few photos that I had posted here on CC have been passed on. Then I found old 2169 on a locomotive but that was not much help ...lol I think the only remedy is to claim that beer from ya but will also offer you one for the attempt to help. THANKS |

An Interesting Story...
The Registry doesn't list Fred Johnson as an owner of CSX2169. However, it does state that Fred Johnson of Shelby American's part department was believed to have helped Carlos Garcia (who purchased the car in 1965) accessorize and add a number of 427 features to the car.
Incidentally, it appears that the car had an interesting start being used for "sales promotion use" in the Northwest NJ Ford District Office (i.e., ridden hard and put away wet). After a year in the aforementioned position, the car was returned to Shelby in late '64 with a Ford work order authorizing over $2,000 to recondition the car. This refurbishment was never completed and Carlos Garcia purchased the car "as-is" for $1,730 in 1965. The last owner listed is Frank Surroz (of Visalia, CA)--who appears to have purchased the car in 1995. |
That info is just what I was looking for, thanks. I am not sure why Fred was not listed as an owner of record but it makes little difference in the end. The car got dented as it was unloaded from transport so just sat for a long time at SAI. Fred worked out a deal to get the car and get her repaired. I will ask Fred for more detail but understood it had been a bit of a test mule for fitting parts and goodies. I guess working in parts helped and knowing all the suppliers/vendors kept things rolling. I have many photos and documents for the car and its stages while Fred had it. The rear fenders were flared by a bodyshop they used as part of the transport damage repair is one of the memories.
Thank you looking up the info. Jeff C |
