Default Thank You Dan Shinn

On Sunday, Dan Shinn gave Mikie C and I lessons on reloading. Dan has quite a lot of experience to draw upon and a Dillon reloading machine. I had no experience and Mike had only some. We learned many fine points of reloading handgun and rifle ammunition. It seems Dan has the equipment and parts to load 160 different calibers. Takes up half of his garage.
Thank you Dan, and thanks for the case lube pad and powder trickler (which is now working just fine.) I have ordered all necessary equipment and will be setup by March 15th. Total investment, in case anyone else is interested, is about $550 and I'll be ready for one caliber.

Reloader AZ Bob

It was fun Bob. You'll soon learn you don't really save any money by reloading, you just shoot more.

Some of the rounds I made at Dans did not get a primer installed. Either through my ineptitude or Dans crappy Dillon, probably me. Qusetion is this. Can I just place a primer on the case and smack it with a leather hammer to seat a primer?

Hell no. Get a real primer seater and do it properly. Buy Lee and be care full.
BTW Dillon's are not crappy must be the user.

I have a primer seater. Can I just prime the loaded cartridge? Or should I take the safe approach and use the bullet puller and start over again.

Better safe than a statistic! We talked about that. Do it right. pull the bullets. If you want to come back here and load a couple of hundred rounds, you're welcome to.

Actually I like you're first plan. Take a hammer and whack the crap out of them.

Bet you're problem was not pushing past center to seat the primers.

Lead or Jacketed? Good luck on saving lead.

Mikiec, I see absolutely no problem with YOU installing the primer without all the bother of pulling the bullet and dumping the powder. I'd suggest that you clamp the shell in a bench vise, primer side up so you can easily get to it. You'll need a milk crate to stand on so you can get your head directly over top so you can see what you're doing. Then take a 3# short handled mallet, of your choice, and a short steel center punch. Be sure to align the punch directly in the center of the primer when you are installing it and give the punch just one good whack with the mallet. You won't have to repeat the procedure if you follow these guidelines. Just WHO was your instructor?

BTW, Linda Brooks sez howdy.

All shells have been primed, after the bullet pulling. Sorry Karl, I did this before seeing your instructions.

BTW How do you know our Miss Brooks?
