CobraRegistry.com...cool or fool?
All,
I happened across and submitted a registration to the site in title, and got a curt email from the admin " Ron" through a gmail site rgiger ( says Ray Giger ). He asked me if I was real or a " bot", and to reply soon with my intentions ( he claimed others in " my area" post " spam and crap"; he seemed quite proud that he could ascertain where I was from LOL ) or face " being deleted and my address blocked " ( insert more laughing by me ). I replied to him ( calling him Ray not Ron ) this morning, explaining a little about me ( pro musician, loves cars, no time to waste spamming etc, only good intentions ) and promptly received a separate email reply that I'd been " removed and deleted ", due to my not meeting their requirements . Is this guy/site a clown? A joke? Cheers- Robert |
It's real, but I don't know how much good it is. I remember this old thread, there are a few others as well: http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/all-...in-forces.html

I admin a small forum site, and send out the same type of "real or bot" type of e-mail to new registrations. I first determine where they are from. We get a lot of registrations from China and Eastern Europe, and I delete those immediately. Don't be offended. Spammers are everywhere. I'm surprised this site doesn't get hit more often.

Ron is a very nice guy, doing his best to keep that site clean of spammers and web bots. It's not always evident which new accounts are real and which aren't, especially when new users haven't posted anything yet. Asking you to confirm whether you're real or not doesn't seem like a big hardship to me.

It's a good forum.

my opinion
I am there every day and glad to be so. Young site with potential. Ron is moderating and running with discression. It is a site in progress just like CC was when Brent started CC. Give it some attention and time.

I agree it's a good site that's still growing.
I could have sworn I saw a slightly derogatory comment from Mr. Mustang here last night. Did anyone else see it? Where did it go? |

Explaining who I was, dropping a couple of CC member names whom I've recently met, and confirming that I'm neither a bot nor a spammer was no hardship at all. I took no offense to being asked to do that, although "Ron" ( his email comes from Ray Giger; who's that?) came off in his email to me a little too hard-arsed...I did, however, feel being deleted, denied and dismissed a few moments later was unnecessary and an infantile reply. I have nothing but sincere Cobra enthusiast intentions regarding all of this, but won't waste my time on that site.

have to agree.....if i would have gotten the "warm welcome" you did....
i'd be gone..... |

I won't drag this out I swear, but I just got an email from Ron saying he can't find my registration ( um, yeah; it was rejected and deleted LOL ) asking me for my username to reinstate the registration process. I suppose he realized I'm one of the "good guys" and will grant me access. Do I need to quote Groucho Marx on this one HAA!?
I'll be BMFSPF on his site if anyone cares to endorse (or condemn) me. Cheers! |
BMF,
I sent you an email asking what screen name you used and never received a reply. We are being snowed under with people from Vietnam, Russia, China, and other countries like that. I am not hard assed and I have approved everyone that I can feel comfortable that they are really interested in joining the site. And I am not proud that I can trace a prospective member. Any fool can do that. The Gmail address is one that I use for everything including my main address as Ron was already taken and I had to use Ray. I use Gmail for most of my contacts with people and companies that I don't know and that way if I start getting a lot of crap I just delete the account and make a new one. I also explained in the email that you obviously haven't read that your name had gotten deleted with about 15 others from the Ukraine, Vietnam, Russia and some others, but yours was by accident. I told you that if you would join again it would go right through. And I did approve a member from Arizona and within 5 minutes he had posted in every forum he could get to before I stopped him a whole long, copied post of spam and links to porn sites. My claim that others in your area had posted spam and crap is completely true. The so called curt email that you got asked you exactly what you said, to answer me and give me some information about yourself. You don't like me fine, don't take it out on the site as it is a good site with good people and we are trying to keep it that way. There is no fighting or any of that stuff there and the members joke around a lot. Ron Quote:

Just doesn't seem fair Ron. |
Time for my 2 cents worth. I know that Ron puts in a heck of a lot of time as Administrator on the site. I have seen a little of how many people from overseas have tried to get on the site with all of their spam. I would think that everyone out there is tired of Canadian online pharmacy spam. If there was an issue with anyone getting of the site and they feel it is not worth their time to reapply then they shouldn't reapply. Nuff said.
