My dialogue wasn't meant for you Jerry.....I know you're a good guy....well except for that LS motor in your Cobra.

Well, it didn't pump up last night. I'm waiting to find out about the warranty on the build and then it looks like I will be up to my elbows in engine parts.

Danr, that's plenty bad JuJu. Gonna be interesting to hear the outcome. Thank God its not a Roush and you were seeking warranty coverage, as I've gathered from many posts on CC.

BeeeeLykins: "Best selling" does not connote "best vehicle". I'll be the first one to admit that if money was never an issue to me, that I could certainly get a whole lotta power from a Ford, or a MoPar, or even a Rambler. However, that's never been my case so I've gladly enjoyed the performance and reliability of Chevy power.

Maybe so, but the other items I listed carry an awful lot of clout...

Unfortunately from time to time, I have to build Chevy engines. But it's easy since I can run down to Walmart, pick up the parts I need, then let my daughter assemble it.

I constantly wonder why GM did some of the things that they did with their designs....putting a roller cam in a SBC or BBC is one of the stupidest things ever. Bronze wear plates, buttons, lock plates, it's all a poor design. The last one or two that I did, I ordered the cam with a Gen VI stub on the front of the cam, then used a thrust plate....like a Ford.

Just jabbin' you all......sorta.......

Well, the verdict is in. The rocker on the exhaust side of number 1 cylinder failed. I tried to get some pictures but don't know how good they are. I'm going to pull the head later today to make sure the piston is damaged. Can't see why a screwed up lifter would prevent a cylinder from building compression. Not sure. In any event, here are some photos.

Don't pull the head....

Just borrow a bore scope, a pen light, or something similar, and check it out through the spark plug hole.

If the lifter wasn't pumping up, you weren't opening the valve all the way.

Dan, also, take that lifter apart....see if it's gunked up inside. The oiling passages may just need to be cleaned out so it will pass oil.

Danr, the rocker failed or the lifter? I'm easily confused. You stated "rocker" but show pictures lifters.

Karl, you are correct. I said rocker but didn't you hear lifter? It was the lifter that failed. Karl, Do you have a compression gage? I can't find mine.

Blykins, should I pull the snap ring inside and see what falls out?

As it turns out, the lifter was stuck. Not sure why, but it feels like a burr in the lifter that is catching the poppet. In any event, I have a new one coming over night at no cost.

I have until March 20 to get it fixed. Gotta be on the road by March 23.

Mikiec: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
" Every time I think I would like an FE someone breaks one." Could it be faulty design or just that the "E" in"FE" is for EDSEL and we all know what a treasure those were. Granted, they had many features and systems 'way ahead of their time, but they were, and still are, ultry BUTTTT-UGLY!

There are many things that could have improved the looks of the Edsel. Unfortunately, a bow tie isn't one of them.
