Stenciling Billboards

Well I tried to stencil a Goodyear billboard on a tire today and it was a fail. No harm no foul on the tire but there's 3 hours I'll never get back.

Wiped the tire down real good with paint thinner and used white Plasti-Dip spray. Didn't stick to tire and rubbed right off. Dang.

Has anyone tried tirestickers.com? It says semipermanent....

Also, my wife picked up some white fabric pencils at Hobby Lobby. The packaging says that it is used to mark garments and can be wiped off with a damp rag. Surely this isn't what is used. Where do you buy the fabric pencils that will work? Thanks.

Hobby Lobby. There two type's of pencils. One is a pencil the other is a marker. Get the marker, you shake it and then dab it to get the white to come out. I don't have one here but if I find the name I will post it.

Just curious after reading the posts. When you are using a white marker, are you trying to color in a black lettered tire to make white letters, in which case the tred-wear.com link looks good, or do you have white letters and are trying to make them more permanent / brighter white? If coloring already white letters, aren't painted letters going to get dirty and need scrubbing after driving a while?
I'd like to find something that keeps white letters white so I can avoid having to clean them.

You can't. Brake dust and road grime will always win. Forget bright white after the first drive. Plus they always look better with a bit of off-white / tan.
I'll say it again. Ranger tire paint. Remove the G'year paint (which will be tan by now) with lacquer thinner. Thin the paint 20% with water or Windex.
Apply in letters. Clean rough edges with Lacquer thinner or pick off with blade.
If you're too lazy to do it right, then just leave them.

I tried the stencils with little success, just didn't turn out the way I wanted. I went to TredWear and ordered a set of the Goodyear letters. Took some time to install but I am very happy with the result. I did scrub a curb last year and it did damage the letters. I was able to remove the damaged letters and replace them with new. I would recommend the product. If I knew how to attached a pix I would do so....

Hi all,

I did have contact with a a forum member who had the stencils - but lost the details..

When my real billboards arrived one or two of the letters were worn off.

My house painter guy mixed a little white with tints to - Antique white -

Believe this - he just dipped his finger in the paint and applied it. You cannot see the variation between the spray on letters and where he ""finger painted"...

Would be time consuming. But he did day use an acrylic as it moves with the wall of the tyre/tire.

Seems like there is more than way. Do whatever makes you happy.
