Default Motor ????

What is your opinion on this motor?
It's a 2011 Ford 5.0.
I'm looking for something that is low maintance, doesn't leak oil and will out run Danr55 with ease.

I have a brand new Ford crate motor I won that should be arriving shortly with a 6-speed Tremec Magnum transmission, if you're interested. It's supposed to be a great engine.

Well, Dan, long time no see. I hope this leads to a welcome back. I wouldn't worry about Danr55's cobra, he's probably looking for a new motor too.

Thanks Bob, It has been 3 years with no Cobra and I do miss the "good" times for sure. My old ride gave me lots of problems even tho the final problem was kinda my fault. I am looking at a new ride with this fancy new style motor and thinking this may be the way to go.
Not really worried about Danr, my Tacoma could go run him.

I think that Bill Emerson wh is on this site as Emerson Motorsports may be able to give you some good information about that engine. I believe he has built a few cars using it but can't say for sure. It wouldn't hurt to PM him and see if that is the one he used.

Is that the coyote engine? If so FFR owner Dave Smith runs it in his new MKIV.

Hey Jeff, how are you doing these days?
Ya I have the Cobra bug these days so maybe I will be back some day.
Still wish I could find a Backdraft with a LS7 but I currently have my eye on a Backdraft with a crappy Ford Coyote in it.

Thanks Danr,
Sounds like you got my bad mojo from a few years back.
Hope things get better for your Cobra.

He!! no, I don't even know why I'm thinking of getting back into this rat race.
I just talked to Tin-man and found out he went through the same thing and sold his SPF at a huge loss.

Ratty-Tatt-Tatt. "When you talk to Tinny again tell him we all say Hi."

Just be sure to say it so as not to ruffle any feathers.

By the way Dan, that coyote 5.0 motor is great. Took my son's F150 with that motor towing trailer with my cobra in it up to Georgetown, CO twice in the last 2 years. Ran great even up to 6.5K rpm and got 13.8mpg. Strong motor. Still running fine.

BobB "Ran great even up to 6.5K rpm and got 13.8mpg. Strong motor"

Why on earth did you have to crank that engine so tight? Not enough torque to get up the hills or did you decide to pass something a little too agressively? Brings to mind an almost-incident on the way to Show Low from Heber???

Thanks Bob,
I didn't even know that motor came in the F-150.
Not sure I want a truck motor in a cobra.

I'm very happy with the "truck engine" in my car. It'll pull stumps and plow the corn, and then push me into the 10's. BTW, what do you think the FEs were originally designed for?
