Tire suggestion help
Gonna need tires right away based on the age of the current tires on my soon to be new toy.
Currently have 15" wheels with BFG tires from 2003 with lots of tread.
Current sizes are 255/60-15 FRONT & 275/60-15 REAR
I want to switch to 295/50/15 REAR.
What brand tire and why?

I have about 1,200 miles on a set of Firehawk Indy 500 tires 295-50-15's on the rear. So far I have pleased with the traction and ride. I bought them thru Discount
Tires. Very pleased.

Either upgrade to 17's or 18's, if that is not an option and your keeping a 15 inch wheel, best is Avon, for looks and good performance Goodyear Billboard, in my opinion any other 15 inch tire's are down right dangerous on these cars, they have way way way way to much power for not having a PERFORMANCE tire, The BFG's on your car right now are scary and speed rated to 115 mph, your car will do that easy...

Mickey Thompson street radials do a nice job, especially after they are warmed up, and on dry pavement. I've read several reports of people using them front and rear and being well pleased. Not cheap, not uber expensive. Jegs and Summit are the same price, but Jegs will charge $20/tire oversized handling fee. Summit won't and you don't get nailed the 8% sales tax either. I found a little tire shop that then mounted and balanced two tires for $20, since I had the wheels off the car. Granted, not a spiffy shop and no written warranty on the balance, but they had good Coats equipment and they knew how to use it. 'taint rocket science to mount and balance tires.

Tires question
Dan, I have had several street tires on my Babe. 2 sets of B F Goodrich 1 set of Yokahama and 2 sets of Goodyear.
This or next year some time I am changing to these: http://tinyurl.com/l59knnt I always liked the white letters.
255/60 front and 295/50 rear. Good enough, reasonable tires for street and occasional track use.

If you're not going to track your car, Cooper makes some pretty good tires.. I prefer 235-60-15 for the front.

For everyday use the M/T Sportsman S/T street radial is about the best all around tire for 15" rims out there. With the exception of Avons. But at half the price. They have a softer compound than the M/T SR's & most other 15" tires & ware well from what I've read & heard from others. I plan give them a try after I'm done with the Hoosier Billboards I now have. Unless I go Goodyear Billboards I do love the look & feel of billboards. They track a bit but it's only natural for the original feel of the AC's. For size I plan M/T Sportsman S/T Front: 235/60-15 & Rear: 295/50-15 the complete set is priced under $600 via Summit & others.

I have BFG Drag Radials, 235s front 275s rear in 15 inch. They have been great tires for me, but I never drive on wet pavement. Unfortunately BFG has discontinued this tire line. Don't know what I will change to when these are shot; maybe Billboards for the look...

What ever you get, stay with the 15" For my money the 17 or 18 inch do not look right.
The M/T are on a number of cars in the gang.

The MT SR's look real nice but of course they cost way more then the ST's.
I will most likely get the SR's and they have a higher speed rating (130mph).

I have a set of M/T SR's with less than 4K. They look ok but I was not pleased with the traction. My ride is 50.3 front & 50.7 rear. Left to right is 50/50 w/me sitting. I'm glad some one is happy with the SR's I wasn't. So I plan to give the ST's a try. After I thin these Hoosier Billboards out a bit. Plus these Hoosiers grab like a raped ape trying to get away from Dr. Fatfinger. But they arn't DOT approved just like the Goodyear Billboards or the G-7's. Still, they are fun! But they will be toast in less than 2K, unless I putt! ...... Not happening!

I have 15"'s
I had MT S/R's on my car (rear) and really liked them but I only got about 13K miles out of them. So I decided to go with more of a "street" tire. I was going to go with the MT S/T then I found out Mickey Thompson is owned by Cooper. The Cooper "Cobra" radial appeared to be the exact same tire as the MT S/T (tread is identical) and they were about $50 less so I went with the Coopers.
I'm not happy with my choice, the Coopers feel "soft" in the sidewall and I can feel my car moving side to side (wondering) while driving. Now I am wondering if the case from MT S/T may be stiffer than the Cooper Cobra and the two models just share tread design. I don't have any way of telling, I just know my car felt better with the MT S/R's.
I don't know that I want to make a $450 experiment to find out if the MT S/T has a stiffer side wall than the Cooper. If it does it might be a good option for those who do mostly street driving and need a 15" tire.
