DanR,
We're not betting on your mileage, we're betting on how long your new motor will last.
On the last Route 66 Fun Run I averaged 23 mpg after we got out of town. Not bad for a 340 hp crate 302 with a Holly 570 Street Avenger.

I average 11 driving mostly country roads, so not "city" or "highway". By the way, my first tank was about 8 even though I was somewhat taking it easy. You'll likely get marginal improvement as well with a few more miles on the engine.

Maybe 6 or 7 mpg in town but I can really streetch to almost 11 mph on the freeway. About 4 mpg on the track ....maybe!

Gee, thanks for that encouragement Scotty. You're right, that's not bad mileage for your cute little engine.

Fitz,
What do you really get, we have the same motor?
Are you running a Holley 750 double pumper by chance?

I have Levy stage 5.5 (408) but have few goodies like a Super Victor intake and Quick Fuel 850 carb with some Bob Reams tuning. I think I get about 10-11 but I set the Odometer every time I fill up and I get net nervous when I hit 100 miles. I never trust my gas gage.

I avg 13 mpg with a 408, radical cam and a Holley 750. With a 22 gal fuel cell I can drive farther than my bladder lets me, and since I don't trust my gas gauge, that's just fine.

Thanks Scotty, but I didn't know my clock was dirty. Karl, Bob...do you guys have dirty clocks for Scotty to clean? I guess he needs the money or something.

City & highway - 4.5mpg. This is a 302 with a new set-up of dual quads on a Trans-am manifold with also new MSD 6AL box, distributor and coil. Still trying to sort it all out.

Default No it's not a joke

Like I said,I'm still sorting it out. Trying to get the timing and the carburation set to where the motor is happy.

I have not checked mine. Somewhat afraid to do so. If I guessed with the dual quads its 10-12 mpg. That is accommodated for in my annual gas budget.

I think I am a bit shy from spinning few times at track and almost did a 180 gunning it on ramp going onto I-17. Age is catching up with me / us. Time to get a Mustang go fast with nice seats, and Air.
Maybe trade someone of old man car.
