How About A March Trip?
I’ve got an idea for an annual trip/event. “Tucson in March.” There are so many places to go, see and do in and around Tucson we should make an excursion there every year. Tucson John used to guide us around once in a while. Of course John is always welcome.
Our old Tucson vs. Phoenix trip has faded into history but, I still have the winner’s plaque. April and early May are busy. Sept and Oct are also. Other months are iffy on weather. A super friendly couple from Tucson, Rick and Kelly Riley, joined us on our Laughlin trip. They are working on an FFR of their own. Amazingly they seemed receptive to arranging a Sat/Sun weekend in Tucson for us perhaps next March. Of course the trip would only include a couple of places to visit but it’s a start for the future. I’ll leave the timing and choices up to them. I made up a partial list of places we could visit. Most likely depart on Saturday am and return Sunday afternoon. Plenty of back roads between here and Tucson. This is negotiable also. One over-night keeps the motel expense down but I am not opposed to 2 and leave on Friday but not all of us are retired and we must encourage the younger set. Feel free to submit your opinion. Pima Air & Space Museum, Titan Missile Museum Mt Lemon, Kitt Peak, Biosphere Kartchner Caverns, Colossal Cave Mission San Xavier del Bac Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum Tombstone, Old Tucson Studio Franklin Auto Museum, Toy Train Museum Towns like Douglas, Bisbee, Nogales, Sierra Vista AZ Bob |
I'm thinking I'll surely have another car by then. It won't be a Viper, Pete.
I digress: Getting to Sonoita is a beautiful drive. Never thought there was any country like that in AZ. The Inde road course, outside of Wilcox is also a very worthwhile destination. Making the trip on a day when they are having a meet, would be lotsa fun, even for those of us that won't be running the course. Sounds like some great little trips, Bob. |
I'm in for most any trip.
BTW, Rick is building a Contemporary Cobra with a 428 BB Ford & 2 X 4 bbls, not a FFR. |
How about a Gumball type rally to New Hampshire?
|
Sounds like a great idea. I grew up in Tucson and there are fun things to see there. I still haven't driven Mt Lemmon in my roadster. Used to do it every weekend when we had a cabin there. Probably not as much fun now with more cars and no passing most of the way up. (We used to pass a lot);)

I'd love to swing by U of A and do a burnout in front of Old Main. I don't think the campus police remember me. :JEKYLHYDE**):JEKYLHYDE

Sounds like a good trip.. and Rick is building a Contemporary not an FFR..

OOPS! Sorry Rick, I didn't pay enough attention. Contemporary is a great car. I know someone with that brand, just can't remember who.

Remember many of us are retired. That leaves other days like T-Thursday open or...
How about any evening in town after 6PM somewhere in Metropolian Phoenix (post rush hour).....and now there is Every Friday Night at Old Firebird Drag Strip for $30-35. That would be fun as group. |

Would the old Firebird strip be the new WildHorse strip?
Dave from Chandler |
Don't know about the Wildhorse people but Firebird hasn't allowed cobras on the strip since before the year 2000 because of NHRA safety concerns. Let us know if something has changed to let us run.

Fitz, if you want to organize a weekday event feel free to promote it here. This is the AZ Cobras, no rules. I'd also like to setup a Flagstaff annual event too but one step at a time.

You all should drive to Texas to see Hersh...

Think its an orange-ish colored car that can't seem to keep running more than a couple months at a stretch. Scottie, "I'd love to swing by U of A and do a burnout in front of Old Main. I don't think the campus police remember me" If any of the campus PoPo haven't retired or died, they might recognize you easier if you were crawling in the gutter of some cross town sleazy bar. |
Got room for a Calif Cobra??
|
We always have room. This is the AZ Cobras. Our Rule #1 is "There are no rules." We'll get some head counts when the event draws near. Keep an eye out.

The Franklin Museum was a very interesting place.
I have always thought of going up to Flag via Payson, Clints Wells, Lake Mary then return through sedona and the back way to Wickenburg. |

You sure know this area pretty good for a guy from Gilford, NH. |
Mikie...while we all, well some of us, miss you, we are not interested in fitting our Cobras for snow tires.. and plows.. and by the way, who pooped in Karl's Cheerios to put him in such a good mood? Is looking for a car that much work?
