Default Insurance

Hey Guys-- I am getting close to putting the car on the road--and of course need to solve the issue of resonably priced, top notch insurance-- Right now I have full insurance for theft and damage etc. while the car is being completed and trailered to and from the different shops--
When it is ready I will convert the insurance--so that I am covered to drive it to shows and on Sundays-- I think they classify it as a special interest vehicle--

Could I get some names of companies that insure Cobras --

That will save me alot of time--

Best regards,

Jim

I use Parish Heacock agency who wrote the policy for Great American Insurance Group. 800-348-4269. Ask for David Parish. My cost is $639 for the year, 3000 miles, no deductible. Not insured for the track. My CSX is insured for the full value so I think the insurance cost is very reasonable. They may want to know if you have attended a driving or high performance school.

Question

AZCobra -

Who is your "interim" insurance carrier? I've heard many people can't get insurance during the build phase - it's not a car yet, but it's not covered under homeowner's insurance either, etc.

Jim, check with you regular insurance carrier. I have american family. They said no at first, but once we sat down and talked about it and I gave them an appraisal, they gave me full coverage at third vehicle rates. I have auto, home, liability, jewelry, etc thru them. I did it because I had much rather have a big name insurance company behind me if something ever happens. good luck, scott.

Stush--

Thanks for the referral-- I will call

Bwana-- I use Dietrich (in AZ) for the interim coverage-- and I believe I was quoted Firemans Fund to kick in once I call them to let them know it is ready for the road--

Seemed really expensive $1850/Yr based on agreed value--
And that is for Sunday driving and to shows only--- I will look at my paperwork and give you all of the contact details--

Scott- Thanks for the reply-- I have Farmers and I run every other insurance requirement that I have through them including auto, business and home-- etc. etc.-- I will pester them a little and see if I can get them to do it--

Thanks again for the responses--
Scott-- If your interested-- the car is at my house now-- until maybe Wednesday or Thursday or Friday-- I have a few hours more work-- then it is off to the engine shop -- for engine install--
Call me and maybe we can get together-- I still have that poster that I told you about before--I am a few blocks away from your place--

Here is my cell #--
602 284-4800--

Best regards,

Jim

I've been with American Hobbyist and have been well satisfied. Paying about $450 a year with $40K value, no mileage limit.

I'm with Phil Alberry in Chandler (State Farm). The car is insured as a collectable and it costs about $368/year for the same coverage I have on my truck.

If I remember correctly, there was a similar thread a few weeks ago, and of all the 'premium' insurance companies, I believe that State Farm got a pretty good number of recommendations. I remember saying something on that thread because I have been with State Farm ever since I came to the US in 1979, and my insurance agent had absolutely no problem in insuring my snake. Looks like Dan has the same success, so if you're looking for one of the larger companies, I would contact them first!

I am with State Farm and after seven years with them insuring my Cobra I am paying less than $300 a year. I am insured for $24,000 and 7, 500 miles a year. I do have my other cars and home insured with them. Good luck, John
