Default Polyglas Windshield

While looking over Cobra Valley's on line catalog for the spinner tool that BobB told us about, I noticed they are marketing a molded polyglass windshield, for about the same price as the glass ones sold by various vendors. Sounds like a very viable option that I'll persue when the time comes (and it will come). Don't know if they make one for a 289FIA but sent an inquiry. Now U NO.

Those windshields would only be legal for street use if they meet and are labelled as compliant with the "ANSI Z26 Safety Standard — 1996", at least in most jurisdictions. I see no indication of compliance with this standard on the Cobra Valley Web site.

Hi Brian, There may be some states here in the US that would be interested in looking for an ANSI certification, but I have never run across it. I'm sure other countries may have stricter or looser regulations. Fortunately, I live where I don't have to deal with too many of what I consider to be overly intrusive big brother government. I don't even have windshield wipers, but then, here in the desert, I very rarely need them.

The ANSI standard is also incorporated in Federal regulations (FMVSS 205: glazing standards), though I have no doubt there are differences among jurisdictions in how such standards are enforced! I do know the ANSI windshield marking was one of the first things inspected on my car.

Brian, inspected where? I don't recall any specific windshield inspection.

I recently replaced my glass windshield and I wanted to install the Cobra Valley Poly Carbonate but could not find a glass company willing to install it so I kept with glass since it was all picked up by insurance. I agree, this is a good way to go at least here in AZ.

I was doing some reading this afternoon and, based upon this article from Car and Driver's Web site (Registration Roundup – Feature – Car and Driver), Arizona is considered one of the easiest states to license a kit car.

I'm in Saskatchewan, Canada and, other than the lack of emissions testing, I'd say we're the most draconian regime in Canada.

Ah, Draconian, Saskatchewan, Canada. I spent a month there one weekend.. Different places with varied requirements for registration/certification. As stated, my inspection took about 8 minutes and involved making sure the VIN was the same as stated on the registration form. Really simple.
