New Windshield
Can anybody help with a good place to have your windshield, or should I say, windscreen, replaced? I thought I had waited long enough after the chip-seal job on the road we planned to drive, but apparently not. Thanks!

Do a search on CC for "polyglass windshield". I remember seeing that someone is making them. They are many times stronger than glass, won't scratch, like Lexan, and should be the last windshield you'll ever need. I doubt that they are ADOT approved, but who's ever going to check? I'll be getting one the next time I need one.

Call your insurance carrier. Glass is covered under comp. coverage. That's why I keep a low deductible on comp. Been through three windshields already. Doesn't count against your driving record either.

Hey Greg,
I installed Fast Eddies Lexan windshield in my car 4-5 years ago. Guaranteed not to scratch, but it does get small chips like glass. It's still in great shape.

Yep, I had a rock in mine and my insurance company had no clue where to find one. They told me if I found one they would come back and install it (but would not otherwise buy it since it was not available from their standard manufacturers). I checked with Shelby American and they would have had to order one but told me who they get them from - Shell Valley. They were great and shipped it to me and I put it in the frame myself. It was a real English glass too.

So Tony, is the "real English glass" the only part on your car from GB or do you also have some Lucas (prince of darkness) bits on it, too?

Oh yes for sure. The switches and knobs were all Lucas. My fuel pump switch developed a flat spot that went out on the way home. I repaired it by jamming a piece of a wooden toothpick to get it off the flat. Then replaced it with another Lucas
That was not the point however, it was that Shell Valley sourced "original continuation windshields" rather than an American or Chinese replacement. I forget his name (the owner) but he said they get some from a production run that the manufacturer does every few years.

Ask Bob Broberg, He has had several windshields replaced over the years. He was happy with the work as I recall.

Greg, if you are here in AZ, I have had 2 windshields replaced at a Safelite shop. Of course I purchased the glass from Superformance and had it delivered to them.

I will have mine replaced after I get back to AZ, taking Scott's advice. Polycarbonate is 200 times stronger and will never run a crack if it gets chipped.
Fast Eddie's in Phoenix will be the place I'll go after returning.
If Scott is satisfied, I'll be satisfied!

Ralphie, you might want to consider a couple things about Scotty:
He smokes those nasty things, I swear, he fishes out of the toilet.
He drinks that nasty stuff flavored by burning cow poop, when there's so much excellent Bourbon available?
He considers "Sugarman"s music to be great.
All that being said, he does have excellent taste in women. His sweetie is most beauteous. Now, her taste in men, not so much.

If you paid more than your deductible, then you have the wrong insurance company. Mine called their glass company and they did a search for the proper glass. Called superformance and had it shipped to the installer. Total cost to me was $100, my deductible. Thats why i pay a little more for my insurance.

Does this Fast Eddie's install the polycarbonate Windshield? Next time my glass breaks I want to go to it. I have a source for the exact fit poly carbonate and silicone adhesive but I need it installed. Removal of the old glass is also very time consuming. Safelite said they would remove it for a price but they would not install polycarbonate.

I do not believe FE's installs but you'll have to talk with Scotty. If recall correctly, I think he replaced it himself.
Safelite won't do for liability reasons because polycarbonate is not DOT approved.

Fast Eddies ships the windshield direct to you, they don't install. It's Lexan. With a friends help, it'll take 1 1/2 hours going slow, if your old windshield slips out OK. I would contact them first to make sure they have the precut size for your frame. Mine's an FFR.
Karl,
Next time we sit down to Happy Hour in some god forsaken parking lot, My smokes getting' blown your way ! Glad you like my wife.

Have your Insurance company replace. First locate one of the vendors for selling the glass (finish line, etc) then give the info to your insurance company. Your Insurance company will probably say, "we have our own source", but not for our cars. Insist they take the information of where to purchase the glass.
