Just read all the posts here. First I'll say this: anyone who says Obama has done a good job, is totally delusional. Anyone who is a supporter of Hillary, is ignorant of the fact that she has done NOTHING positive for anyone (other than herself) EVER in politics. She has no track record of anything positive accomplished. She's as relevant at Brett Farve's wife claiming to be qualified to be an NFL QB because she is married to one.
There is NO common ground anymore between Republicans & Moderates / Democrats, so no matter what facts one side presents to the other, nobody learns or admits to right or wrong. Adults stick to their "guns" even if they are proven wrong, just to save face. And this polarity indicates to me just how screwed we are.

The US is already a socialist country.
Socialism (n) – A political theory of social organization that advocates that the means of production, distribution and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole.
"We also use things every day that are for public use. Things that, if certain corporate bullies had their way, would make for-profit. Basic things that we need to get around and survive. Things like roads, bridges, dams, traffic lights, and public emergency services. Not to forget public schools that educate our future generations, and hospitals that are always there when we need them most.
Socialism saved the country when faced with the Great Depression, but it was called the “New Deal,” because even then “Socialism” was a naughty word. How did Socialism save the nation? Through over 30,000 public works programs that were sponsored by the government. Not unlike when President Obama launched his stimulus package which jump started the economy again after Wall Street decided to play casino and flushed the nation’s economy down the toilet. A stimulus package that, to be honest, wasn’t big enough.
More Socialism? Social Security. You know, that thing Republicans want to privatize and hand over to Wall Street, because they’re so good with money (sarcasm). Social Security is solvent and paid for separately. It will be there for everyone when they become of eligible age, and will prevent the elderly who worked hard all their life from slipping through the cracks into poverty. Social Security would be solvent forever if we raised or eliminated the salary cap, which is currently very low to favor the wealthy who only pay a fraction of their income, as compared to middle and working class Americans who pay on all of their income.
Even Republicans have to admit they love the military, right? Of course they do! However, you know what the military is? The ultimate example of Socialism. EVERY aspect – from recruitment, to training, to deployment, to benefits, to home loans, to the VA is PAID FOR BY THE GOVERNMENT. Yep, that’s pretty darn socialist — and we like it that way. Imagine if we privatized our military? Yeah, don’t. It’d be ugly.
You know who else loves Socialism even though they’ll tell you they hate it? Corporations? They receive grants, tax credits, breaks, etc. etc. etc. all at the hands of tax payer dollars. They even rely on tax dollars to pay for Medicaid and Food Stamps when they don’t want to pay their employees enough to survive. They say they hate it, but they L-O-V-E it, very much.
Basically, Socialism for the rich is cool, as long as you don’t call it Socialism, but social programs for anyone else is obviously the devil’s work. So says Fox News, so it is written. Amen."

There's more to life than guns. BTW, Canada also has its media outlets - we don't need to rely upon "a steady diet of US liberal propaganda". Interestingly, the Canadian equivalent of Fox News was shuttered not that long ago - apparently they couldn't get enough traction for their right wing propaganda, notwithstanding the fact the Canadian federal government is Conservative in both name and philosophy. We're in the throes of our own federal election, so it will be interesting to see where that goes.
Regardless of whether Canadians are liberal or conservative, the World Happiness Report, published by the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network, recently ranked Canada #7 (and rising) while the US was ranked #17 (trending downward). Read more at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Happiness_Report
Lifestyle9 ("Fashion & Lifestyle Magazine") also releases a list titled “Best countries to live in the world”. Guess what - the US ranks #20 on their list while Canada ranks #14. Different rankings than the US, but comparable positions relative to each other.
So, whether you like, dislike, agree or disagree with Canadian liberalism, it appears it works for us.
Have a great day, eh!

I don't speak French and often travel to the U.S. - and I don't plan on changing either.

I'm even further away so I better keep my mouth shut. It's not worth it for guys who would otherwise get along fine to go at each other over politicians. They're in it for themselves and don't give a royal rat's arse about you and me. Probably why it's best to stick to arguing about Cobras. REal or replica anyone?

Buzz, where in the hell is St. Lucia, West Indies? There's something making you sensible and right on the mark. Your thoughts are the same as I brought up 'way back in about the 13th post. I, personally don't like B.O. did not vote for him, and don't see that he's done anything constructive for our country. That being said, we all have opinions, and no one on this forum is going to change anyone's opinion, so lets just go back to our good natured harassment of our friends, technical help, and sharing our trials and tribulations we have with our beloved common hobby. OK, I'm off the soapbox now.

I've been to St. Lucia - wonderful island with lots of twists, turns and elevation changes in the roads. You have to be real careful when crossing the street there, as they drive on the wrong side of the road like the Brits and the Aussies. It was our favourite island until we visited Barbados.
Interesting tidbit: A few decades ago St. Lucia was a favourite vacation destination of Pierre Trudeau, former Prime Minister of Canada.

Yes - its a nice little place that comes with all of the pros and cons of living on a small Caribbean island. Its not for everyone, but I love the life here. The individual islands are generally small, but if you like the sea and enjoy boating there's lots to see and do between all of the many islands, each a bit unique and different from one another.
Trudeau was a regular here when I was a kid and quite a few US presidents have vacationed here over the years. I even got to startle Slick Willie Clinton with the Cobra a few years ago blasting by the golf course near my home. Interrupted his shot and got the attention of his secret service detail

Frankly, that's about as valid as searching for a non-experienced cardiologist for that pending procedure.
Would think the last 6 years would have served to point that out

Perhaps less time on facebook, more time with real books. Perhaps Economics 101 for a prudent start. Eh?

I took Economics - and scored well. I've also spent many years in the 'C' suite with an IBM subsidiary, so I've been around the block a few times.
EDIT: I forgot to mention I also spent 6 years on the Board of the local Chamber of Commerce.
Perhaps less ideology and more pragmatism, eh?

Another thread ruined by another liberal troll. Sorry, I'm keeping my guns, hate liberal politics and really tire of the smarter than you crap who continue to quote their biased liberal manual. Don't bother posting up how I am disillusioned, uninformed and not worthy of my conservativeness, I am done with this thread.
BTW, Obama is a racist.

The political views of Cobra owners. I'm guessing this thread would take a different direction on the Nissan Leaf Owners New York Region Forum.
I love this thread. Very entertaining. Please keep posting.

Yes, I'm guessing it would!
Here's an interesting little piece titled: "Why Can't We All Just Get Along?" ( Why Can't We All Just Get Along?). It explores the fundamental divide between conservatives and liberals, and the underlying reasons for that divide.
"Studies have shown that liberals tend to care only about harm and fairness when considering whether something is moral or not, said Peter Ditto, a professor of psychology and social behavior at the University of California, Irvine, who is involved with Haidt's research. In contrast, conservatives have a more traditional moral structure, and tend to care about all five morality factors, he said.
"So that's where a lot of the problems come in, is that the things that really bother conservatives don’t bother liberals very much," Ditto said. "And the two groups don't understand each other's morality very well.
Take gay marriage, for example: "From a liberal standpoint, gay marriage isn't a problem, it doesn’t harm anybody, and it's only fair that gay people be allowed to be married just like straight people can," Ditto said.
But for conservatives, gay marriage goes against the traditional idea of marriage, and so presents a real moral problem."
The article goes on to explain 'biased perception of facts' and how 'simple notions of "right" and "wrong" are judged based on altered realities by both parties.'
IMO it's an interesting and insightful article that's worth a look. It doesn't take much time to read - though it will take a little longer for those who can't read without moving their lips.

I appreciate the fact that all parties here have not resorted to name calling or foul language. There will always be a gap between us but this is the Arizona Cobras forum, so why so much attention from a Canadian who has no vote in our politics?
