CSX 3172 (or 3173) At Good Guys
At the Scottsdale Good Guys today, I ran across CSX 3172 (I think) that was being used for Autocross. It was looking pretty rough and its nose was damaged from a mishap coming out of the trailer. They are running an 800hp+ fuel injected 496 FE, and it screams! It was so good to see an original Cobra being used for competition. Wasn't pretty, wasn't shiny, wasn't even clean, had plenty or dents and dings, but WOW! What a BAD MOFO! Loved it!

Karl, did you see Bill Devine and Wayne Hendricks racing their cobras on that autocross too?

There were a couple other cobras. They were having fun for sure. I spoke with the owner of the original Cobra. Nice guy and thanked him for being there and kicking ass. Quite a few fast cars that turn like a go cart! Ya got to drive em. Gary

Could it have been 3170? He's a member here and is currently active in autocross.

He is from San Jose,CA. The very pale blue/silver paint. Front spoiler etc.

That is Bruce's car #3170.... I am 100% positive he will be posting a detailed account of the weekend, so I will not spoil it for him.
Below is a pic of me in Bruce's car and below that is a pic of my car. I am not nearly as quick as Scott to be begin with and I had the luck of drawing Danny Popp (Alien Autocrosser and overall event winner) in round one. The two local guys (Bill and Wayne) tried to race their way into the 32 car duel field as there were 9 race in spots available due to previously qualified cars that didn't make it to AZ for the event. Neither of those guys made the field. Kevin.... |
