Leadership
First of all, I would like to thank Mikie Canning & Bob Broberg for everything they have done for this group for the last 16 years.
(THANK YOU)
Now that they have both pretty much moved on it's time for us as a group to come up with a new leader.
My input would be to choose someone who is very involved, very well liked, knows this group and who truly loves this hobby.
With that said, my vote would go to Karl Bebout for a future leader.
Lets hear your thoughts.
PLEASE don't just read this post, RESPOND with your input. (local guys)
Thanks everyone, we need to keep AZ Cobras alive and going for the future.
Dan

Karl would be a fine choice. He has even been traveling over 50 miles each way with his cobra every Tuesday night to join us NW siders at Padre Murphys. He was there tonight. He is certainly involved, specially since he now has a driveable car. Dan Shinn is also a good choice if he didn't work so much and was younger. Karl is always there with his odd sense of humor. LOL

I thought Dan retired?
I'll be interested in this as there has never been a vote for the supposed leader. I just started this group because I knew it would be more fun than driving by myself. After I left Bob, took over the reigns and did a good job of delegating. He changed the dynamics to where there was more people helping with the planning etc..
See you guys on RTE66

"Thanks for the memories", Just watched a Bob Hope special. Mike and Bob have done a great job for AZ Cobras. Thankyou. Great idea Dan to try and get us to agree! Karl or Dan would be a good choice for leader of the pack if they want to accept. Here is my opinion. Gary

Who says this is gonna be a vote?
Karl or Dan is fine. Just make a decision and tell them.

I would most certainly vote for Karl, buy I think he would already have stepped up and taken the post if he wanted it. It would be great to have a leader with such a ball buster attitude !

That's the way I got it. The idea was put into my head by Jerry Nansom. Then he stepped back.
Looks like it is Karl's job. Maybe he will keep his car on all 4 wheels now.

That's great news , I think he will be a great new leader/president.
Just wondering with his new position, should he cut off that pony tail now?

HoDePhone,
I appreciate the good thoughts several have expressed, but there are a whole lot of folks in the group, not heard from yet. I do think that more events will get planned if someone specific is "in charge", rather than just leaving it up to whoever gets the urge but, as a few of us discussed at the Christmas party, I think it would be beneficial to get some younger people involved. The difficulty of that is that many of our younger guys are still working and/or have families that require their spare time.
All that being said, I think that, for at least the rest of this year, we can go along as we have been. Danr55 does a good job setting up the Rt66 Fun Run and the Coronado Trail weekend. Joe Bria blasts eMail notifications and maintains the mailing list. I've got the picnic and several day runs and Old Phart (Bill) has gotten a good start on December's Christmas Party. I'll also jump in on some of that preparation. DWRat and Robert have come up with ideas and I certainly encourage anyone else to also put together some thoughts and ideas and we'll see if we can get some participation.
I anticipate that there will be a real good turnout for the next Christmas Party, considering the venue, and then would be a good opportunity to get quite a few opinions and reach a consensus.

It almost sounds like a call.l for nominations. in case it.isn't clear, we are calling for nominations at the anniversary party. We will hold elections right after the reading of the minutes and the collection of dues for next year.

I like the idea DWRAT. Karl is a good reluctant choice. However, I don't think any one person should shoulder the burden of putting run ideas on the calendar for everyone else to enjoy. I also think we should put together an annual calendar for vacation planning for all Cobra owners in AZ. For example, I like San Diego. There are numerous events going on there I would attend. One being the Miramar Marine Air Show. If everyone throws ideas on the calendar we could agree to eliminate some and maybe add others. Put a calendar together and the person suggesting the idea could chair that event. That way the burden for coordination could be shared but chaired by one (Karl???). Also, ad hoc last min. ideas could be shared by all and if nothing major or long term planned on the calendar it could happen. Just mu $0.02

I think the idea of a calendar of events is excellent. We have the Christmas Party, Picnic, Rt 66 Fun Run, New Years Day Run, Coronado Trail Run, Copper State Rally. The FFR Huntington Beach show is open to all brands and is a good drive and a good time. No doubt there are many other events that could/should be noted.
Where and how and WHO could put a calendar together and have it be EASILY accessible to all of us? There's gotta be someone among us with the needed skills.

From experience, it takes a lot of work for one person even the great and Powerful Karl would be challenged, especially since he could not hide behind the curtain. I had Miss Ginny.
I have loved watching every one get involved with all types of planning. The calendar would be a good idea, but not sure how to make it viable.
You might want to ask Ron Richards or Jamo if it would be possible to do something like this as a sub forum under this one.

Might be a good idea, but remember that some events, like the Coronado Trail run are dependent on weather. It's hard to plan a year or even a couple of months in advance. The anniversary party, picnic, Rt 66, are all generally the same weekend each year so they would be a cinch to plan.

Danr is right.....wait, did I really just say that?
I like the idea of a published calendar that would hopefully make planning for people easier. Some events would certaintly be subject to change but could be listed so folks could maybe keep them at least, back of mind, when they (or their wives) are having ideas about doing something else. 2¢
