OK, we'll work it backwards from the 21 of Sept. I'll post the itinerary this weekend with motel names and dates.

Why is it taking so long Dan! Ha Ha What is the feeling about the last leg to Tahoe. Any suggested run length. It can be as much as 260 miles thru the back country from Napa to Clear Lake . Mostly 2 lane roads. Just checking with everyone. The people in CA should know the roads I am talking about. If there is a problem with them let me know. It's only been25 years on some of those roads. Not the Grass Valley run though.

According to MapQuest, it can be a 3.5 hour drive. I'm not sure what it's going to take. What I am planning is a whole day on the 22 to get from the bay area to Tahoe. Not sure which way anyone will want to go after 7 days behind the wheel of a Cobra. So I am allowing one day from where we wake up to where we end up. If it takes less, then good. I just want to have enough energy left to go to a casino and win some $$.

There is that engineering mind at work. That makes good sense Dan. Besides, we can figure out how to go over scotch the night before. Maybe even a cigar.

Wow, the tree is gone? Haven't been to Taco City in a long time. Too bad you'll miss the BACC at south lake Sept 16-20.

Hi Guys

From Napa I would suggest getting the shortest route via highway 80 to Tahoe, about 162 miles. While that part may be boring, the jewel is getting to Tahoe ASAP, which I am doing on Friday.

FYI, the BAY AREA COBRA CLUB looks like they are staying at the Best Western in Tahoe....but my copilot insists on a spa place which we have been going to across the street from the Lake, walking distance to the casino and has a more B & B feel.

Good luck to you gents...I'm sure I will see some of you on the road around the lake.

PS...be sure to eat downtown Napa...fab places to eat!

I think Dan would agree also about getting to Tahoe. Hwy 80 has some good qualities once pass Auburn. Down town Napa restaurants are great. Sorry we will miss the BACC in south Tahoe. The World Antique Boat Show is the following weekend at Sierra Marina on North shore. It is going to be a blast for 10 days.

The memories of the tree are vague. I lived in the old Pony Express Lodge, which is now the Charthouse off of Stateline Road up the hill a bit. That was 1974. Cleaned the beach at Zephyr cove every morning, and parked cars every night. Great summer ! The locals weren't too friendly though.

"The locals weren't too friendly though."

Couldn't have been your "sparkling" personality that prevented friendliness? Hmmmmm?

In 1974 had you discovered Scotch. That could explain not remembering a tree in the middle of the road !! Late 90's they took it out. Fanny bridge still there as is the Bridge tender bar. There is a Red Bull skate board race on the old Donner Pass Road. Highway 40 I think. Check out video. Great road for Patti and Al, lots of twistys. Talk about crazy. My top got here today. Now I am really stoked for this trip.

I kinda figered she must have been a heavy drinker to have married you, in a fit of weakness.

Well I ran into a little problem over the weekend. I called several venues looking for rooms where we would have direct visibility of the cars and I couldn't find one that would reserve 6 or 8 rooms for the time we needed. Adriana has a contact with a travel agent who is going to look this week. So stand by for more information to follow.

An update for arrival at Lake Tahoe or should I say Truckee ( 10 miles from Lake Tahoe. Cooper and Karen ( my Nephew) have gratiously opened there home to all of us for Thursday and Friday night ( 22 and 23). It is on 5 acres. The bedrooms are spoken for but many couchs and lawn furniture on a very large deck on second floor. A big catered BBQ on Friday night. It is great place and you won't believe his man caves for garages. I will try and post the menu.
Appetizers, grilled veggie platter, dry rubbed tri-tip, beer butt chicken, pasta salad, mixed green salad and seasonal fruit , truckee sourdough baquette. twenty five per person and we bring our own booze. Water and ice tea provided. Beats having to find a restaurant for all of us. This is done by a person who does it as an advocation and a friend.
