A little vacation
Some of us were sitting around talking and we thought that a group trip would be fun. What we came up with is a trip up the coast of California maybe all the way through Muir Wood and over the mountains and down through Napa and Sonoma. Stops in Solvang, San Simeon, Big Sur, Pismo, Moro Bay, Monteray on the way up then a long day's run from Monteray across the Golden Gate and up through Muir Wood. A run across the mountains to Napa and a night in Benicia. It's beginning to look like about a 10 day trip. So far, there are three couples who have expressed interest. Anyone else interested? We are thinking about mid-September. Nothing is firm at this point, so options are still available.

I'm thinking about going solo. Depends on the date but I would love to drive up the coast over the Golden Gate through the woods and into Napa Sonoma.

I'd love to go over the river(or bay) and through the woods. It would definitely be without the wife!

I'm positive "She Who Must Be Obeyed " would not be interested. She gets bored after about an hour in the Cobra. Depending on the date, I might be able to make the trip.

Scotty, I think for something this expensive and this complicated, it will have to be an agreed upon date where everyone who expresses interest gets a chance to throw their 2cents in the ring.. As soon as this have been up for a few days, I will send an email to everyone interested and see who says what then we can draw a consensus and agree on a good date. Not like a two day trip up Coronado Trail.

"So how about a planning meeting? When. Where . got some ideas but we need to talk."
Is this coming from the guy that gave crapola about HiNoon's suggestion that a president discussion could be held at the picnic? The very same guy that brought up rule #2? The same guy that gave Aliedog crapola about giving people choices and then turns around and offers options about the Memorial Day run? THAT GUY?
I'm all for getting together to discuss the planning for the proposed trip. Perhaps a real early morning meeting at the Payson Airport Restaurant? Might as well get a run in to add extra value to the get together.

I like Karl's idea.. wait! Did I say that? Ok, I'm not sure if Al and Patti want in on this but they did express interest. I'll check with them and see. the reason for the planning meeting is that I see this as a 8 to 10 day trip not just a jaunt up a mountain. Everyone needs a say to assure that we maximize participation in something like this. So unless something unforseen comes up, a week from Saturday to Payson airport to discuss the First California Commemorative Expedition sometime in late September or early October sound OK with everyone? Scotty, maybe you want to check with the San Diego folks and see if any of them want to tag along?

Dan, there is already something on the calendar for Saturday the 18th.
That might conflict with some folks.

Is there anyone interested in the SoCal run who is planning on the car show at Penske next Saturday?

Here's something to think on..
Leave on Thursday morning by 0400 to drive across the desert and arrive in So Cal by 11:00. Drive to Santa Monica and up PCH to Topanga Canyon. Spend the rest of Thursday and Thursday nite there.
Friday: Drive up US 1 through Pt. Mugu and Oxnard, Ventura to Santa Barbara for lunch. On to Solvang. Rest of Friday in Solvang. Drive back to Buelton for the evening.
Saturday, head to Morro Bay thru Cambria/Pismo Beach and San Simeon. Saturday nite in Morro Bay.
Sunday into Monteray. the Monteray Aquarium and various sites in Monteray.
Monday head for Stinson Beach thru San Francisco across the Golden Gate and Muir Wood. Spend Monday nite in Stinson Beach.
Tuesday head for Napa/Sonoma. tour through Napa and head into Benicia for Tuesday nite.
Wednesday drive to Bakersfield. Wedneday nite dinner at the Sheephearders..
Thursday drive to Palm Springs. Spend the nite.
Friday, leave by 0400 and be home in Phoenix by 1100.
The two long legs will be to Santa Monica and back from Palm Springs.
All open for discussion except the aquarium in Monteray.. for me that's a must.

Obviously some time spent on this run Dan. How about coordinating the arrival in Napa with the Bay area cobra club run to Lake Tahoe. I believe the middle of September. I would split off after Napa and travel to Lake Tahoe, Truckee . I like the schedule of events Dan. Gary
