A 2 bbl CARB?

Just goes to show ya, even at my sorta advanced age, I'm still capable of learning something. My brother mentioned that he'd seen an episode of Jay Leno's Garage where Herbie Hancock was showing his original 1963 AC Cobra. I had to Google it and found that he had told me correctly, that the car had a 260 V8 with a 2bbl carb. All these years, I'd of course known about the 260's being the first engines, but I had no idea that they'd come with just 2bbl carbs.
Will wonders never cease?

Based solely off Karls past history, he might be better off with a single 1-bbl carb.
Just sayin...

"Based solely off Karls past history, he might be better off with a single 1-bbl carb."...and a good lug hammer..

No Fear. The only times I got into trouble from too much power, was in my Chevy powered car. Those worries are over now, with my tiny Ford engine.

Now, the hammer issue...done learned my lesson, and no more track time for this car.

Good things come in small packages! And besides 1 FoMoCo horsepower equals 1.5 bow tie HP!

Karl Bebout 07-21-2016 09:22 AM

"Good things come in small packages! And besides 1 FoMoCo horsepower equals 1.5 bow tie HP!"

BUT One Ford HP costs 3x as much as one Chevy HP, and the Chevy HP lives 3 times longer.

Danr55 07-21-2016 10:00 AM

" the Chevy HP lives 3 times longer"...seems there should be a whole lot of "depending on who's......" working on it...driving it......buying parts for it.....and a few things we won't mention.

Car Nut 07-21-2016 11:19 AM

Not to mention the real possibility of running out of oil, since we all know Chebbies leak,........lots.

Hell I just want to go and drive mine one of these days. Been so hot I feel bad for not driving around the block or something in the last month and 1/2 .

Karl Bebout 07-22-2016 01:32 PM

Wazzup Fitz? You spent big bucks to have air conditioning in your Cobra. Wasn't that so you could comfortably drive it, when its toasty out? You have a hard top and windows, surely that AC would cool the tiny passenger compartment.???

Phx Mike 07-22-2016 08:09 PM

I hate to admit it but Jeff is right. But worth the extra cost anyway!

Phx Mike 07-22-2016 08:11 PM

Drove mine today. It was hot but fun nonetheless!

Here's a link that describes Herbie's car and how he came to purchase it.

Just A Car Guy : Herbie Hancock

I like the part where he talks about buying a Ferrari and putting the Cobra into storage and he talks to the Cobra, which had been his daily driver and says "This is for your own good; you’re too valuable to drive. Look, I’m replacing you with a Ferrari; at least it’s not a Chevy!”

Karl Bebout 07-23-2016 08:44 AM

Herbie is obviously a glutton for punishment, or maybe he's smartened up in his later years. A Ferrari would certainly be a hoot, but not as a daily driver. The maintenance costs are horrendous.

I'm pretty sure that's a secondary consideration for Herbie Hancock...
