Just wanted to say thanks again for the suggestions on the car and express my regret that I could not be out there with everyone this am.
It is not lost on me that today is the 15th anniversary of the cowardly acts of terror perpetrated on our country in 2001. Those who committed those acts took the lives of thousands of innocent citizens and set us on a course of war that would result in the loss of thousands more brave soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines over the next decade. Moreover those who attacked us sought to take away that most American of values - our Freedom. They sought to create an environment where each of us would be a little more afraid and a little less able to enjoy the freedoms paid for by those who died to earn it for us. There are not many places in this world where one can build, own, license and drive a Cobra (if you don't believe that, take a look around the next time you are overseas). This may seem like a small thing and maybe even trite, but I can't think of many things more American than being able to go out and drive a Cobra.
So I am glad that some of us got out there today and I wish I could have joined you.

Mike, have you called the service station to find out if others complained of engine failure since your incident?
It is not too far fetched that something went into your tank other than gasoline. 
Here in Illinois at a BP station a couple of years ago, a fuel tanker driver put a load of diesel into a station's gas tank. 
It just seems suspicious that after about 30 seconds your engine bogs down, just about the time it takes for your fuel pump to supply the carb with something other than gasoline. 
Don't laugh, stranger things have happened!

Ralphie, you're spending an inordinate amount of time on the AZ channel. Are you back in your digs in Maricopa or are you just lonely for some serious Cobra talk?

Yes thought about that but I don't think it ran long enough to get the fuel out of the carb bowls, and also would not explain why it woul not crank afterward.
Turned out to be the starter. I am just a little worried as I don't know why it failed. Can't have more than 75 starts on it since new. |

Not yet, Dan, but the weather is still perfect here, mid to upper 70's last few weeks. A little lonely since the snake is hibernating in Maricopa.
I certainly don't want to repeat last year's snowstorm fiasco on the way down.

Mike, I just re-read one post in which you state, "The engine was running for about 30 seconds as I left the filling station then after I pulled out onto the road and stopped at the light it began to bog down (car was in gear with clutch disengaged). Idle slowly dropped down to about 600 rpm and then it died. Like it was under a load and stalled."
Still curious that the engine got bogged down so badly that it actually quit. Did you look at the starter after removal to see if the gear was locked to the starter shaft? Or any other strange observation?

I believe that's what happened but not 100 pct sure. Looks like the starter failed to disengage
