We lost a good friend this morning.
I'm feeling real sad now because we lost our girl
dog last night. She past away in her sleep. I stayed
beside her until the end. Lacy girl was a wonderful
and very smart dog. She was with us from 1989
when our kids were still in school. Her passing
brought back a flood of memories of her playing
with the kids when they were young.
I will sorely miss that wet nose waking me up in the mornings.
Hersh

Hersch,
They are just like friends and family.
I've had to put to sleep both of our family dogs....tough decisions...tough to do.
I still remember both very fondly and as you pointed out, the memories correlate to family events and growth.
Remember the good times...she'll bring a smile to your face forever.

I am truly sorry, Hersh.
We had to put our beloved Golden Retriever, Hercules, down about two years ago, at the age of 14. I stayed with him and stared into those loving, trusting brown eyes of his, until he could see no more. Not a day goes by that I don't think of him; we will always love him. But life goes on, and about a year ago we got a thoroughbred mutt at the Humane Society. She's a sweetie, and she basically runs the house. It's her world, we just live in it.
Death comes to us all. I choose to believe that in some fashion, we will see each other again.
Remember the wonderful times you had together, and know that she is in pain no more.
Your friend,
Tom T.

Sorry to hear about your dog Hersh.
I wish that our dogs would live for exactly the same length of time that we do.....because losing them is so damned hard and they are so precious.
I read something recently that said it well - "I wish I could be the kind of person that my dog thinks I am".
I have a little Jack Russell - named Jack of course - who is the sweetest, smartest, funniest, most intuitive little guy that I have ever had the pleasure of having. He is 4 now and sometimes I think about him passing - it is going to be tough.
We just have to realize that they don't live long enough and that when their time comes we have to find another to love.

Thank you for your kindness.
I love animals. Counting lacy I have six dogs and two cats.
All of them were drop offs. People that no longer wanted
them come out here in the country and drop them off then
speed away. Of course I can't let them stay on the street
so I take them in. Having five acres has its advantages.
For some reason all of them get along real well.
They all do a good job of watching the property when we
are gone.
Hersh

She had a good life
Sorry to hear about your friend passing on. My wife Susan and I (I am Steven) lost our best friend Boris on the last night of 1995..he was a purebred rottie, pup of a working police dog on the sheriffs dept in El Dorado county, CA, and top of the pack anywhere he went. Whole street gangs would part like the red sea when Susan would take him for a walk alone...LOL
He was as nice a guy with helpless animals and children, as any golden retriever, but a terror to the baddies. What a guy, my Susan's first bodyguard, and I suspect she loved him more than me
He lived to 10 years, and had the best life we could give him. He was a hero, saving our home from burglers several times, and making my Susan safe at home and when she walked him, for almost 10 years. He got bone cancer in a back leg joint, and we foolishly tried chemo after the leg was amputated. He was able to hop around well until the chemo did him in. We since have learned that chemo is especially hard on animals with short lifespans, and to humans too. Natural healing is the best way, especially preventative herbal suppliments and right diets. Regular dog food will not do for high powered dogs like rotties. they need vitamin mineral suppliments like Dynamite, and additional fresh protein such as cooked ground meat. No artificial preservatives, they are terrible for the fast metabolism of dogs and cats.
We now have Clovis (5) and Romana (8) They should live longer than Boris because of all that we have learned.
I consider it one of the greatest mistakes of our Maker (He has not made many to have given dogs such a short life, and allow parrots and some bad humans to live to 80
Maybe there is a purpose in this, to teach us something...?
Susan and I expect to be reunited with our passed on pets, when we gain eternal life. They do have a distinct spirit, which is different than ours, but real. Spirits sleep until the resurrection, and I see no reason why the spirits of the pets of believers will not be saved as well. There are scriptural hints that those who are true believers and doers of the word will at that time receive blessings beyond understanding.
Hope the rest of you have your relationship with our Maker straightened out so you can have that same joy.
Hersh, anyone who loves dogs is OK with me

Hersh,
Sorry to hear about Lacy's passing. I always enjoyed seeing her when I was there.
At least now her discomfort is over.
Take care my friend.

Hershal,
Sorry to hear about Lacy.
I can count on one hand how many times I've cried as an adult (including broken bones, etc.). The most vivid memory is when we had to put our golden retreiver, Kona, down (due to a tumor right next to her heart) two years ago. She was "my" dog and I'll never forget her.
We have three golden's right now, and I'm not looking forward to the days...
Your friend,
Ben

Sorry to hear about your loss. We have been through several doggs over the years...now with two. Golden and a Viszla. Wife is pushing for a third but I am resisting. I know it is hard but you will get over your loss and possibly get a new puppy for which new memories will develop.
As an extra note:
13 Things your Dog Can Teach You
1. When loved ones come home, always run and greet them.
2. Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face be
pure ecstasy.
3. Let others know when they have invaded your territory.
4. Take naps and stretch before rising.
5. Run, romp, and play daily.
6. On hot days drink lots of water and lay under a shady tree.
7. When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
8. No matter how often you're scolded, don't buy into the guilt
thing and pout...run right back out and make friends.
9. Delight in the silmple joy of a long walk.
10. Eat with gusto and entusiasm. Stop when you have had

11. Be loyal.
12. Never pretend to be something you're not.

Found this in some magazine somewhere.

Thanks again guys for your kind words. CC is truly
a special place. being able to share this and have
such a great understanding bunch of folks.
Stush, I like those lessons and it rings so true.
Ben, They make such an impression that you could
never forget when they're YOUR dog.
MikieC, Lacy really looked forward to that giant head rub you
always gave her when you came over.
Susan and Steven. You two are special folks. I would like
nothing more than to be reunited with all of
my pets and family in the here after when that time comes.
Jeff, That smile has been on my face a few times already.
Tom T, Those mutts are something special.
Jamo, I'm starting to feel better my friend, I bet Buddy
is right at home by now.
Claunchy, There is no doubt about that..Family indeed !
Gordon L.. It's just like Gordon C. says they are family.
MikieF.. Naw..she didn't hate GM, she was teasing.
ERA535..... It really is a shame that a wonderful animal
like the dog doesn't live longer. When they do leave you
you are reminded of your own mortality and how sweet and
short the time is here.
Hersh

Hersh,
Sorry to hear the news. I grew up loving a lot of dogs. I remember them all so fondly. My wife won't allow any dogs now, but maybe someday I will have another Moose. (Big German Shepard). Moose NEVER let anyone hurt us kids. Big bad body guard who let my younget brother pull his tail and jump on him. He was a stray we picked up.
