Barrett Jackson
Anyone get out to the auction today?
Went for a drive today (cold and windy) and saw someone with a nice black 427 car up on the 101 westbound in north Scottsdale. Maybe a Superformance but not sure. No stripes, silver ceramic coated side pipes, Cobra and 427 / Ford side badges. We cruised together for a while down the 101 and south on the 51 before he exited at Cactus. Anybody know who this is (being new to the crew I don't know everyone).

I have been there all week as I had automobilia selling every day and last night I said goodbye as my 67 Eleanor crossed the block to a new owner. Making some room in the shop. Overall some prices were down especially at Bonhams and RM, Barrett Jackson is all over the place but happy with what my car did.

Glad you did okay Ron but must be sad to see the Eleanor go. I watched a little of B-J Friday and Saturday and prices seemed soft on the rest-o-mod cars...seemed like they were selling for less than it would cost to reproduce them.

I will build another one one day. I did better than I expected but yes some went for 1/3 lower or more of the build price. All over the place. Tuesday a nice 56 checvy went for $25k and Saturday one went for $100k and they wasn't that much difference in the build

I don't think that 95K+10% a 70 Mach 1 with a Ford GT engine transplanted into the trunk would be called "soft". To me that's just plain goofy for two reasons: 1. Why would anyone do it and 2. why would anyone buy it?

This is one thing that is reiterated over and over again. Unless it's a truly rare car one hardly ever recovers their full investment in restoration. The lesson is almost always "let someone else pay for it".

Agree - what people will pay and what it costs to make it are definitely two different things. What I meant by soft was that it sure seemed like some of those cars cost a lot more to build than what they sold for and probably sold for a lot less than what the seller thought they would get. That Mach 1 with the mid engine was definitely a strange one!

I finished the build my car to enjoy it not worrying about whether it was worth it but if you have a quality car and the right buyers in the room yes you can have your cake and eat it as well. I netted after fees over 20% above what I had in my build. Some people just are stupid like when they out $200k+ into a car that will never be worth more than $100k

Ron, I see you sold all 3 of your babies you wanted to sell. Congrats! I am not familiar Tigers or 356's at Bonham's but your sale numbers looked OK and your Eleanor sold well at B-J. Now you may have room for the AZ Cobras Anniversary Party this year? Perhaps inside if it's too cold or rainy (people, not cars).

I have been to BJ in the past ....just to see the cars and I pretty much ignored the auction...
I have watched this week....but...to tell you the truth I much prefer Mecum....BJ has so many gimmicks ...it is annoying to me...can't stand Steve Davis.
Mecum is all about the cars and not the stars....others may have a different opinion...just my 2 cent.

All the auctions are great. Like my grandpa said. If we all liked the same things we would all want to sleep with grandma. What's awesome about BJ is not the cars but all the golddiggers looking at them. Eye candy all day.

I was happy overall given the market. I bought the tiger at Mecum last year. Ended up coming home with a custom 1954 ford F-100 with a 351 Cleveland motor. Happy to host the xmas party next year if it fits for everyone. I have a few more signs to hang and it will be done

I wish Mecum would come to Phoenix but I doubt it with 7 auctions the same week and Russo and Steele as well for muscle cars. Overall prices at other auctions like Bonhams and RM were down 15-30% from estimates
