I tossed about 6 vintage stamped and welded jack stands a few years back after one did something similar. They were probably 40 years old. I use wood blocks most of the time now.

When I jack up the back end of the car, I always put the Jack under the pumpkin. It allows enough room to get jack stands under the frame
