63 Slab Side
A drop dead gorgeous SPF '63 slab side is on Bring a Trailer. Practically worn out with 3500 miles. With a couple days left, the bidding is in the $60ks and what a steal it would be...if that was the high and if it was accepted. The ad states over $110K was the initial cost. Beautiful Black with Red Leather interior, chrome wire knock offs, 289 from Southern. Only down side for me is the top loader. I've gotten spoiled with having a 5th for overdrive. Perhaps I just like to cruise a little too fast?
Wonder if "She Who Must be Obeyed" would object to having another little snake for a pet?

You could park it above your ERA. That would make a nice symmetry. Smaller engine might save your life...

That car is seriously under priced, at least currently.

Hey Karl - not that big a deal to swap out the trans. You'd need a trans, the clutch (probably), and a driveshaft. You'd be able to sell the take-outs to cover part of the cost. Nice looking car!

The car on BAT is beautiful, yet, I question whether it is "that special" just because it has a vintage engine and transmission installed. For me, any color but black these days (I'm lazy when it comes to washing and waxing), but I dig the red/black color combination just the same.
Bill S
PS: Yes, the car is grossly underpriced at 60K

Hey Karl - If you buy it, you can ride up to Oregon with Scotty and drive it back down...

Nice car, no doubt, however I'm wondering how comfortable it would be driving 70 mph with that 3.73 rear end and a 1:1 fourth gear. My calculations show the engine turning 3,249 rpm.
Might be a little buzzy for my tastes.

This is an excellent plan, but I wouldn't have any place to park it. The locks would have been changed, the garage door openers reprogramed, and shots would be fired, when I pulled it into the driveway.
Bill, I'm not real big on waxing and stuff. I drive my cars. Road rash be dammed. BTW, my ERA is such a dark blue that most times it appears to be black. Sorta goes with the black Vette, black 328i, and black Pilot in the garage. The bright red '68 MGB-GT is like the rose among the thorns.

Clearly, the 328i and the Pilot are expendable.

Take my word for it, the front suspension makes the whole trip exciting.. regardless of road condition..

Have you ever noticed me not being able to keep up with the rest of you with my 289 and toploader...????
The toploader is butter ... B-U-T-T-E-R. Easily the nicest manual transmission I've ever rowed through the gears (and I'm a die-hard Muncie guy)
5th gear is for weenies.
However, I do agree that the 3.73 rear end in that SPF is WAY too short (especially with pizza slicer tires) - 3.27's (or even 3.08's) would have been IDEAL with the 4-speed for that car.

Agreed! It would probably cheaper to replace the rear gears than the trans, and if the top loader is the more common wide ratio variety, it would still take off smoothly in 1st gear.

With just over an hour to go, bidding sits at $70,000. I expect there'll be a flurry of activity in the last few minutes, but the buyer could still end up with a good deal on a sweet car.

I think it's worth the mid $80's. $70 anything is still a great deal provided the owner accepts the bid.

It's a beautiful car. If I built a slab side I would do it exactly the same.
Bid is up to 76K with 15 minutes to go.
The clock is ticking Karl.
