Csx4206 for sale again
Evan’s old car CSX 4206 is listed for sale on Canepa’s website owned by Dario Franciti. Isn’t that who bought Evan’s CSX last year? No price listed yet. No affiliation just noticed it on their website.

Very nice looking CSX, you can count on this car being fully sorted from Canepa.

That is very undervalued, the buyer made a great purchase.

100 grand for an aluminum bodied car with a side-oiler does seem like a pretty smokin deal...
Probably because it was missing the white stripes

$295K for a continuation Cobra? I wish I was famous enough to think that my short term ownership could double the price of everything when I sell it because my ass may or may not have touched the seat (:

If I ever sell mine I gotta stick some Shelby badges on it and have someone sign the inside of the trunk so it has "provenance". Otherwise I am sure I could not sell it today for what it would cost to replace it new.
Seriously - $295K...?

You guys have to keep in mind that value is subjective. Stop trying to correlate it to price.
295k seems steep to someone who may not have 295k.
But there are many, many MANY people out there to whom 295k isn't even 5% of one year's income.
Bruce Canepa hob-knobs with people up in that social strata... many of them will buy a car represented by him, simply due to their personal friendship with him; and they really won't care whether a bunch of yahoos on some web forum agree with them about the price they paid.
You might as well post that Tiger Woods' used yacht isn't worth 20M just because you can buy one just like it for 15M from someone else... Sure it's a true statement, but do you think people in that social arena (and mindset) actually care...? I don't.
I buy golf balls for $18 bucks a dozen, and I swing a 20 year old set of clubs. I play with guys who pay $50 a dozen, because they think the ball (and the new $2500 set of clubs they replace every year) makes them a better golfer... and I have no consideration about what ball, or clubs they are playing when we are agreeing on how much $$$ to lay down on the daily Nassaus...
When a car sells for ANY amount, then that's what THAT car was worth at THAT exact moment in time.
You also have to keep in mind that 295k is an ASKING price. Not necessarily a final sale price. You gotta start high, and work down, in order to maximize your take..
Now, I do agree 100% that a continuation Shelby Cobra isn't a collector's item. However, it seems that there may just be (many, or at least several) high net worth car collectors out there who disagree with me on that point... and if they have the cash to keep ramping up the prices on these (well done, very technically accurate, but still replicas nonetheless); well, then they are right, and I am wrong. Simple as that.
I say "good luck with the sale, Bruce and Dario..." and give a big thumbs-up.
then, I go outside to do some laps on my 5 year old craftsman lawn tractor- because the grass needs to be mowed...

I totally get value, price and affordability. I don't see 295K market value in a car like this and it has nothing to do with my ability to afford it. I guess what I am saying is that I will be surprised if others conclude that a nice aluminum replica car owned by a retired race car driver with no real connection to the Cobra history is worth 295K. But, I have been wrong before.

Evan allegedly sold his car for $225,000-235,000. I can’t recall the amount exactly and I’m not going to look it up. Evan posted the price because he was peacock-proud of it on another forum, maybe it was TeamShelby. The rest is Canepa’s 20-25% profit margin, give or take a few thousand. Dario just wants his money back.

Evan didn’t sell the car for what he claimed. The car was a mess when Dario received it. It took time and $$ to unfork it. It was set up for a midget to drive it, brakes sucked, etc. It was finally squared when Canepa received it to sell.

Let's not forget an aluminum "roller" from SAI Hilbank is plus or minus $200K, less drivetrain. These are Cobras that are essentially built post Carrol Shelby by Superformance under the guise of Shelby American Inc.
The person that bought the 4000 Series Continuation Cobra at Mecum did very well, you couldn't find an equivalent Kirkham on the open market for that price.
I AM SURE THE PREVIOUS OWNER IS NOT IN A VERY GOOD MOOD REGARDING THE AUCTION RESULTS, ALWAYS HAVE A RESERVE ON ANYTHING YOU DONT WANT TO GIVE AWAY!

that is a usual pricetag for careful and period correct assembled continuation or recreation cars meanwhile, with FIA HTP in Europe sometimes higher

DenBeste has an alloy CSX roller with no options priced at $163,250:
DenBeste Motorsports
The bulk of the options, I personally wouldn’t choose, but others might.

That’s why I used the term “allegedly.” Evan was known to embellish (I’m being kind) his “facts.”

Now, the car being mess does surprise me. Over the years, he took his Cobra to Billy Andrews at HRE Motorcars and my impression over the many years was that HRE was/is a top notch shop.
