Default Cobras sell at Barrett Jackson

Just posting an FYI for this year of Barrett Jackson in Scottsdale. A new build BDR went for $95k plus fees, one silver California CSX with a 511hammered for $220000 including fees and a black CSXsold for $110k all in. Further proof that the market is very volatile with these cars, even the factory five went for $50k!

I looked some lot numbers up so I don't have to force my wife to watch it all day just so I can see what Cobras are selling for. This way I can just periodically see what lot theyre on and try to tune in when these lots are coming up. Here's an FYI for Saturday

1255 is another csx4000 car
1406 and 1407 are some GT350s
1408 is CSX2177
1416 is CSX3239
1425 is a GT350r
1428 is CSX2093

Think copious quantities of alcohol may have been involved in the $220K price? Hmmm

For sure, two people are smilin'
The seller and Craig Jackson.

Two bidders that really wanted the same car. Any guess's what the Boss 429's might bring?
Seven figures for sure, but might see a new record price.

So if the next highest bidder was over $200K, why didn't he buy the black one that came across later for $150K and paint it silver??? The black car barely managed to beat the BDR!

It's interesting as the cars are all over the place on sale $
Remember auctions can be deceptive as cars that appear sold may not be etc.
When 3021 sold it sold to a fake bidder then next highest won two days later.
Know this as I know the story from #2 bidder
Not smearing BJA just saying these auctions are not clean.

Everyone has stories about how the auctions are rigged by the auction house. Noone has ever came forward with proof. If thre were I'm sure we'd see it in court and in the real press not just "I heard from someone that heard".

Neither does it prevent a seller from placing a shill buyer. It's pretty hard for the auction house to control that.

However, I know of multiple instances where the PARTICIPANTS are not entirely honest. The best example was the Bugatti Veyron at BJ a few years ago where an overexhuberant bidder figured he'd be outbid at 650K but wasn't. He admitted he couldn't afford it and was ejected from the site and banned for life. Craig Jackson broke in after the subsequent car was finished and offered the car to the previous bidder who rejected the offer so Craig bought the car himself, and you still see the car at the auctions with a BJ sticker on it (nice company car )

The all over the price was also evident in many other places.

The single thing worth noting over the last few years is that if you want to buy a recent vintage Bentley or Rolls do it at an auction. Two or three year old cars that originally sold for 400K+ are going for pennies on the dollar.

As in so many transactions, let the buyer beware, Needless to say even more so in auto auctions.

The other CSX that went Saturday were at $100-105k The buyer of the silver one that sold for $200K had consumed quite a it of alcohol for sure as did many that night. I don’t drink so it is easy to spot. Los, the auction company frequently raises the bid the, selves in hopes of getting a higher bid and if it doesn’t come goes backward. It happened dozens of times this week, both automobilia and cars. At the price the new Ford GT auctioned for charity was hands down the coolest car these.

Overall prices were soft at several auction ESPECIALLY Barrett Jackson. They had some hit it out of the park but they will only hit a higher total this year because they sold 300 more cars. Hagerty will post results and averages for all of the, in the next few days

CSX2093 was a no sale, didn't meet reserve. Anyone know how high it was bid?

@LMH, I believe CSX-2093 got to 650, maybe 700.

I was surprised to see that the CSX 4000 series car that sold for $220k (including fees) was “just” a fiberglass car! I thought that was the new price territory for the CSX aluminum cars. Yes, the alcohol factor does help explain it a bit...

What surprised me was the 69 Shelby Cobra that sold after the BDR only went for 60k ish. Never thought I'd see that.

The $200,000 CSX was a metal car.

Problem with #2093 is that it seems to be an auction gem. Meaning its been to so many auctions, drag car (needs street conversion) and its color is tough to look at.

A friend of mine wanted to buy it however it sorta gets a bad wrap for what it is.

My advice, change drag gearing and make it usable on street.
Making it streetable might help it some as it probably will not see a dragstrip seriously again.

Neat car, great history color and texture less attractive than most.
I love it but I have odd taste.

Jeff,

That car is an auction queen. As you suggested, if someone would make some modifications, it might sell. Either that, or they need to be realistic with their price. The current setup just is not too attractive. Maybe a museum, but again nobody is stepping up to make a purchase at the price the seller wants out of it.
