Rte 66 Fun Run 2019 summary with photos
Chalk up another Route 66 Fun Run. My 16th in a row. In 2003 only Mikie C went, then the next year we all went. Great weather all 3 days. Uneventful with a few exceptions. Ralphie entertained us with his ability to make beers disappear, Tim needed to reset his trunk lock, Jim Cook left a skid mark and butt print on gravel, Bruce B, Dr Bruce and Scott impressed us with their ability to make Arby Shakes into meals.
It appears Scott has trouble traveling under 90mph. Top speed for weekend was probably about 110mph. No traffic to speak of. Smooth trip Friday up through Chino Valley and Ash Fork. Great parking in Seligman but the lines for Snow Cap were long and the band was a bit loud and old. One member is 99. Most of us took Route 66 Friday all the way to Kingman. The Red Roof Inn check-in went smooth and the rooms have been remodeled and upgraded but so has the price. Jim Cook was a pleasant roomy. We may do that again. Jim couldn’t play hard due to a clutch problem. Dan Shinn had an oil pressure/distribution problem that kept him at the motel Saturday morning.
We all met at Calico’s for dinner Friday, all 26 of us. LOUD, slow and questionable food issued by a butch Frau whom you didn’t want to cross. Friday and Saturday night we all gathered in the parking lot for loud discussion and avoiding cigar smoke. Saturday morning had us splitting up in different directions. Some to Seligman, some to park in front of Mr Dee’s and some to Oatman. You already saw Scott’s photos from the Oatman Trip.
From Oatman some went back to the car show in Kingman and some went on to Laughlin to the Riverside Car Museum, then back to the show. Dinner Saturday also split us up between a Mexican Restaurant, Arby’s, and elsewhere. Sunday morning, many of us left at 7am for the direct route to Wickenburg for breakfast at the Horseshoe Café, others went on to complete the Run to Topock. Gary & Vicki went on to Sedona for some R&R and Tim and wife were driving up to Washington. I think some went on the Salmon run back to Seligman for breakfast at LiLos. Here are some photos with captions to indicate what’s up.
This is Snow Cap on Friday:
We had prime parking.
Our parking at Red Roof Inn except Dan & Scott were alone in the back building.
Friday night at Calico's:
Jim Cook's Skid Mark. If you look close you can see his butt cheek imprint.
Here's Ralphie's car with Burrow in Oatman:
Friday & Saturday night parking lot with up to 26 people.
The subject came up for next year. Perhaps a different trip/venue????

More Trip Comments
We had 12 Cobras on the trip. Thank you goes to Scott 2bars and Louise for their F350 taxi service and, of course our non cobra drivers for their back seats (Bruce B, Juan & John, Jim P & Carolyn, Mikie C & Gail.) Many members used Uber both nights to dinner. Thanks also to Red Roof Inn owners for placing most of us close together in rooms. Thank you to Dr Bruce and Scotty for letting riders join them on the Saturday trip to Oatman Adriana and I.) Karl, Greg & Vicki, Marc and Lisa, Ralphie & Dale, Gary & Vicki were everywhere, involved in everything. Fun trip.

There was a close miss on the return trip. Between Seligman and Ash Fork, two of our favorite Cobras almost got a visit from John. Going down the hill toward Ash Fork on I 40 at about 105 MPH, the red car decided to slow down when a previously unrecognized grill appeared in the rear view. The blue car with the white stripes likewise backed off of the gofast pedal. As the red car slowed from 105 to 80, a silver grey SUV marked Arizona State Trooper pulled up along side and looked. He then continued to pass the blue car who had likewise slowed. It was a thrilling and somewhat harrowing event. Everyone survived without invitation.

"Blue car with white stripes is kind of vague...". On purpose. If the operator wishes to make himself known, he will do so......Isn't that right Gary?

Great pictures and story and I actually remember some of those places from many years ago when I was young and we were using Route 66 to travel back and forth. I always enjoyed it and of course the traffic wasn't anything like it is today. Thanks for posting them and bringing back some good memories.

You're starting about two months late if you intend to travel during the daytime.

Just a quick heads up. I had a phone call from Tim & Jamie last night, they are home safe & sound AND the Cobra made it ALMOST all the way home, a slight miss continued to plague the car till it made the Washington state line, were it said enoughs, enough and refused to run any longer. A BIG thank you from Tim To you Bob for the tip on AAA towing ins. Saved them a ton of money for what would have been huge tow bill Tim & Jamie's trip there makes our trip next year (4-6 PNW members), to see our Brethren more of a sure thing, they said MOST of you folks were fun to be around (Dan, Karl you listening ) So we here will continue to embrace our new member's like you folks did there. Tim & Jamie know a few of our member's and make a great fit with them already. Tim's Cobra is already on Rob Sweet's list, (Our Snake Charmer) should be a easy fix. Cheers Rusty / Tommyrot.

What was the diagnosis for the failure? Tim's car sounded great down here.
See guys, I told you we could fool them if we tried. Now when the rest of those guys from the GNW get here, ….well, you know.
Looking forward to having all of you down here, Tommyrotten..

We're thinking fuel starvation? Tim called Charlie and he said there was a old? weird? gas filter that he didn't change, collapsed fuel line??? Tim has 2-other Cobra in line before Rob get's to his, MINE & Brent's. And you know a 3-year wait take's #1 on the list . Karl said I CAN stay with him, So I say it's a go for next spring. Heading off to see the ol'Green Monster Sunday morning, maybe just to put another coat of wax on her, wish me well Cheers from Mr. Rot.
