A couple folks talked of worn out towels and such. DrDuc got bug bites. The folks running Best Value are certainly nice and always did me right but the issues last year were off-putting for some. My experiences there have always been fine but I understand others' concerns.
Seems to me that Tana mentioned something about some high school bringing kids in that weekend as the reason for shortage of rooms.
Be prepared for an excellent twisty-curvy drive, BIG FUN!

Good. In that case, Welcome to the insanity. I think you'll enjoy the run. Lots of great roads and neat turns.. Not sure what Scotty has in mind for lunch this year, but the Lodge at Hannigan Meadow is so-so for food but great on ambience and makes a great back ground to photos..Which begs the question, Scotty, where's lunch this year?

It's hard for this group to all eat together at the same time. Last year, about a third of us ate at a restaurant in Alpine, good food. The other 2/3's ate at Hannigan's Meadow. I'm going to take the New Mexico run this year and eat in Alpine. Let's get a census from the group, and find out the name of the restaurant in Alpine.
Last one there buys lunch.

Has anyone heard from the Weaver Family? It would be nice to have Al and Patti along on this trip since they are being reclusive... Hey, that makes them like Karl! What do you think about that Al?

Bear Wallow in Alpine was much better than Hannagan Meadow, in my opinion.

I agree Hannigan food is ok. Lets do Alpine for lunch then. So, nonstop to Alpine or pick a spot for a break ?

Its probably best if the entire group doesn't show up at the same time. Those that take the New Mexico route will arrive there first. We should be finishing up when the Coronado Trail group arrives. By then the waitress will be thoroughly pissed off. ( just kidding )

WE RIDE TO EAT !

"( just kidding ) " No you're not. She will likely be pissed off and you'll likely do it on purpose... (just kidding)

Both are excellent opportunities to make a nice drive but I've pretty much stopped with the car show stuff. Hoping to still do the Springerville thingy.

The show was sold out in May. Motels, restaurants, and traffic will be busy. Avoid Rte 260 through Pinetop & Show Low on return, unless you want to visit the show. Even the Hon-Dah Casino Hotel gets sold out.

Thanks for the heads up Bob. Looking back on it, you'll find that this run is usually the same weekend as the Run to the Pines. History says we are through ShowLow and well on our way before the traffic picks up. I don't think this year will be any different.

If they're serving breakfast at the show, maybe we can stop there for breakfast !
12 cobras pulling in would cause quite a stir.

Been giving it a lot of due consideration, and since I've driven the trail 5 years in a row I think this year I might take the Great Western New Mexico route with Scott and Karl any other near do Wells.

Danr, if you go the NM route, the folks on The Trail will have to drive fewer miles, since you won't be leading them on your typical "detours".

Karl,
If I remember correctly, you're the detour king ! I won't go into details, it would take too long

What, who me? Only a little side trip up the side of a mountain on "The Trail" and Munds Park is lovely, this time of year....
