Cool

I was never very happy with that blushing on the rear clip so I'm having Gordon repaint the silver and reclear the whole thing. I want it to be the best it can be for the Knotts show. I wish I had the time but I have too many other things that must get done. The Cobra gets new headers and a new paint job plus I still have things to do on John's GT40. Seems like time goes by way too fast.

Hersh

PS...Why would you ask ? didn't Gordon want to tell you?

Hersh,

I dropped my car off this morning and was running late. My ride was there and I left. As I was leaving I saw it sitting there. So being the nosey kinda guy I am I had to ask.

So have you guys seen the new Kit Car? Hershal's writing is now famous. And I agree with your point(s), Hersh. Today's street rods really aren't all that different from most Cobras in their general construction. Frame, repro body, suspension pieces, interior, paint and voila.

Thumbs up

Thanks Ben for noticing.

Yes, it's just a matter of time before we as Kit car builders will be known as Componant cars or Self assembly auto builders.
And those titles could incompass all kinds of auto building. I think street rods are componant cars. Even if they start with an original it doesn't stay that way for long in the hand of a good builder. He will change suspensions, add power windows, seats, stereos, and a host of other modern improvements. Not too different from what we do.
It's funny but you can't say replica to an owner of a 34 Ford 3 window coupe or they get insulted. When I was at Good Guys last year I had several guys ask if my car was a kit and I would say it is a replica. Then I would ask what they had. One guy said he had a 37 ford 3 window coupe. I told him that Ford never made a 37 Ford 3 window coupe. I asked him if he mated a top from a 36 3w coupe to a 37 . He said "Naw, I just bought a fiberglass body and I got the frame from Fatman." he says.
" Oh!, so you have a phantom replica." I got a weird stare and he then walked off. What's good for the goose is good for the Gander.
It's really time that all of us car crazies stop this catagorizing and look at what one has done and start appreciating the fact that we all luv cars and we all get the one we luv the most.

Hershal -- great story. That guy's reaction is classic. Sometimes I find myself getting mad at people like that, but then I relax a find it pretty funny. "Glass body and a frame from Fatman." So that's different from a Cobra or a GT40 because...... because...... because...... Uh, I can't think of a reason either.

How many of them try their cars on the track, too? Very few I'd bet. I think that's where a lot of you Cobra/GT40 guys would really embarrass those guys.

Even Boyd Coddington has figured it out that it's not so different building a street rod vs. a Cobra. He was already good at one. Why not expand to the other? Other than body shape he probably doesn't feel like it's too much different.

Oh well. Life is too short to let those kind of people bother you. (Don't worry, I know you've already figured that out. )
