Knottsberry Farm Trophies
Arizona should be proud. We received 6 trophies at the awards presentation:
1st place GT Class - Hershel & Paula Byrd and his GT-40
1st place 427 cobras under $25K - Jack & Barb Hammond
2nd place 427 cobras 25 - 35K - Bob Dreischer
2nd place 427 cobras 35 - 50K - Jeff & Kathy Classic
2nd place 427 cobras over 50K - Bob Broberg
2nd place 289 cobras - Paul Gillespie
I know Paul also got an award for most miles on a cobra.
The weekend was great, except for sprinkles Sat night.
We all went to the Claim Jumper Friday night, then beer in the parking lot till bedtime.
On Sat night most went to Outback with FFR group, some went to Knottsberry Farm Dinner, and 7 of us went to the pizza/beer kariokie spot like last year but this year their participants could sing!
Smooth sailing home after stop and go in LA going on Fri.
Also attending was Jamie, Kevin, Lysle & Brandon, Stewart & Lisa, Gordon, Bill and Dave & Paula, all from AZ
AHA and AKA club people all said hi to the AZ Kit Club President, Ginny Canning and they missed her. Didn't say anything about Mike.

Thanks, Bob...
Cruisin Central was fun. 9 cobras in attendance.
There was even a full blown dragster making a run down Central.

I don't understand how in the world I ended up the that trophy. When I register last month I in class 15 Cobra 427 (25,000-35,000). I was stunned when they called my name. After the awards I checked my card on my windshield and was in class 14 Cobra 427 (under 25,000), go figure.
I attended the Outback steakhouse event with FFR. It was a real fun time, after dinner few folks decided to go Go-cart racing. I got rain on on the to the track. and put my top when I got there. It took about 1.5 hours we the group to get on the track and they put up a pretty good race.
The trip home was a quick one. I kept my top on until I got gas in Desert Center. The speedometer spent a great deal of time between 90-100 and a couple of time up to 110. Traffic was pretty light after Riverside. The trip took 5hours 5 minutes with 2 stops for gas and one stop for food.

It was a good time ! we all had a ball. I won first because we had all those Arizona guys there and I know I won because of them voting for me. THANKS GUYS !!
Paul, what time did you arrive at home? I left at 3:15PM and
arrived home at 8:10PM. I thought for sure I could catch up to you guys. We stopped for gas but not to eat. We stopped at the
same station where the A&W was and then again in Quartzite.

Hersh,
I left at 2:05PM arrived at 7:10PM. If had a full tank when I left I would have stopped 1 time in Bythe for food and gas plus it next to impossible to eat and drive 90+ in a Cobra, so I force myself to stop.
Bill,
It was great meeting you in person as well. You got friends in Phx.
Mike
If Hersh needs a restroom an F-16 isn't going to be able keep up with that GT-40.

Bill, it was great being able to meet you and talk about the old days of motocross. I loved that contemporary of yours. If you
ever get to Phoenix you better stop by.
Hey! when you gotta go you gotta go! That rest stop looked like we had a car show going on. Even the DPS guy was impressed.
Paul, I thought all of you guys caravaned back. I didn't know you all went your seperate ways. Heck, I didn't even see Bob or Bill with the trailer. Even they must have been flying under the radar.
Mikie. them runs to the trough are days gone by. That Adkins diet has worked well for me. I have lost 37 LBS so far. hope to get down 18 more. Now I gotta go buy new clothes. Such a nice problem to have...

Sorry we left you guys in the dust. My truck just can't wait for the little foreign cars to catch up! Maby if you had some more horsepower? I sold my Cobra for something that would get me there first!

Mike, you're right I forgot about Ed Shipp and his 2 entries. Ed brought 2 great cars and 4 people. Both of his cars won trophies, I think his T-Bird won 2 or 3!. His other small block custom car also won a trophy. Boy, Arizona was well represented!!!

Also by the way we got a couple of people good with the remote Fart Machine, including Bob Dreischer and Haroon. Great weather and all the Diet Coors you could drink. Just keep those carbs away from Hershel. (the carbohydrate kind).

Knotts
This was our first run to Knotts but will not be our last. We had a great time and the throphy was nice too. THANKS gang for your votes.
I did not leave until Monday morning to come home. The rain started Monday from about 4 AM and by the time we got on the road about 9 AM it was coming down in buckets with heavy fog.
THANKS for a great time everybody.

I have to agree that the trip and show were great events! After enjoying beer and pizza and a couple of decent karoke singers Saturday night, it started to rain so Brandon and I hit the road. In our effort to avoid bad weather, we were probably the only ones who ended up driving in the rain! We had light drizzle and wet roads for about thirty minutes. We didn't have to stop, so stayed dry except for the obligatory dripping on the left leg from the windshield post. As the evening wore on the weather cleared and traffic was light. It was a nice ride.
Hershal, Brandon wanted to leave Saturday night as it was his girlfriend's birthday, but really hated to miss his chance to ride part way in the GT-40. He say's "Thanks, anyway" (and hopes to get another opportunity some time.).
The Arizona group made a great showing. Congratulations to the trophy winners. I should have stuck it out. I might have won the "Best Volvo Replica" trophy.
See you all at the picnic.
Lyle
