J. Nanson-Thank You
I'd like to thank Jerry Nanson for the time and technical assistance that he gave me today. My 1993, EFI, 302, automatic, had died and could not be started at a gas station in Phoenix while I was on my way to the 2nd Annual Arizona Cobra Picnic. Mike Foss carted my butt from the disabled Cobra to the picnic and back to Jerry's house. Jerry quickly gathered some tools and we drove back to the Cobra, yes it was still there after 4 hours alone in a gas station parking lot. To make a long story short, Jerry connected his spare computer to the car and it started. We reconnected the origional computer to the car and it started. Away Mike and I went, headed for Tucson some 100 miles distant. I talked Mike into stopping at a McDonald's for a quick snack before leaving the Phoenix area - BIG MISTAKE. The Cobra wouldn't start again - frustration sets in, AAA is called, the Cobra suddenly starts and we get home. THANKS JERRY for all of your help. I hope that you and the wife weren't too late for your dinner party. John PS. I'll be paying Mike off in little incraments for the next five years.

Jerry is always ready to help. After he was done fixing your car, he loaned me his engine hoist. What a guy!

John,
I wondered what happened when you guys didn't come and get my trailer. I figured that you got the cobra going and didn't need it. It sounds like you still have some kind of electrical or computer problem. Possibly there is somethiong that is overheating inside the computer. Then when it cools off it runs. Wierd ! I hope you find the problem John. You were in good hands with Mikie F and Jerry.

John,
Glad you got the car home. I have a fix for you....get a carb!!!!
It sounds heat related.
As an aside..Bob B had problems with his SPF. About 10 miles out from the lake he experienced a hugh overheating problem. The temp got over 130C. He called Kevin Feltis and had then trailer the car to his shop.

Thanks for stopping, Mike. I limped into Cave Creek with a couple of cooling off stops, then called John at Anthem Motors. His cell phone is his business number. Good thing Kevin gave me his card and said they were looking for more "shop" business. Both gentlemen came out to tow at about 5:30pm and back to shop. John says they have another bay and will expand next door soon.
Problem was not water pump as I first thought. Probably either too much nitrous and a blown head gasket, or a simple leak through the front silicone bead between intake manifold and block (I hope). Will find out Tues.
Still on for 66 fun run unless bad news arrises.

Bob,
Wish I could have done more than lend moral support. Hopefully it will be a minor repair. I was thinking stuck thermostat.
See you Tuesday night.

John,
We gotta go over your grounding scheme...or lack thereof.
Either that or an excorcism, cause you definitely got a gremlin in there!

I figured it out....
It's his silver paint. Whenever the car knows it will be next to others of the same color it throws a hissy-fit. Yeah, that's it. John change to color.
I hope you guys find the problem. If I can help from here let me know.

Mike Foss didn't mention that his Cobra is running again. Yesterday he installed the new side pipe and off he went. Actually I went along for the ride - WOW. Hey Mikec, Mikef's car will blow your doors off !!! It is QUICK and LOUD. As for my Cobra I purchased a fuel pressure guage today and will install it tonight. After reading two books on the Ford, 302 EFI engines I came away more confused than ever. The fuel pressure should be 32 Lbs, 36 to 40 lbs, 38 lbs, or 32 to 41lbs. ??? Anyway I purchased a guage that goes up to 60 lbs. Hopefully on Thursday I'll take it in to get a proper disnastic (sic) reading and should be able to find out what went wrong. I really doubt that it is heat related because I drive the car all the time and a two hour trip to Phoenix was no big thing. Thanks to all for your suggestions and assistance, I will let you know as soon as I find out what's wrong. John

John,
I rode in Mikief's car last year at the fling. Even when it was not running well it would wipe mine out. Something about 600 HP, with blower, compared to our 300HP. Take out the blower and it still makes over 450HP.
Good luck on the car.

Haven't driven my car in awhile. Forgot how much of a hoot it is to tool around in. "Tool around"... boy there's an ancient phrase! Pulled in to Costco to gas up. What a pleasure to get premium for $1.66 again. It's 5PM rush hour traffic...I'm idling in line about 6 cars back and I see the attendant waving. "Who me?". Yeah, comon up here! Got a special Cobra pump up here. Made my day.
