Every one back safe.
Hersh, Mikief, Paul and Lyle have returned home safely from the Fling.
Paul mentioned something about him and Lyle growing wings on their cars.....
John K is staying up north for another week and he will fly home. Something about surprising his son and leaving the cobra with him for a month. I wonder if his son will let him have it back?

I was wondering if everyone made it home safely wherever is considered home. Regardless of the kind of driving you did at the Fling, from the parade into London to runs at the airport, the trip to or from the Fling was the one having the most potential for an accident.
So far, so good. No word of any accidents or injuries.

Hi Mikiec, As you know my Cobra performed perfectly from the start of the trip all the way to my son's home in Michigan, 2,387 miles. ( I've now got 8,400 miles total on it. ) I did install a new unbrakeable rear license plate holder once I got to Michigan. Son, James, loves the Cobra. On Wed. evening I calmly asked if I could get a ride to the Detroit airport on Saturday. Jim asked if I was leaving on Sat. and why did I need a ride to the airport. That was when I told him that the Cobra was going to stay with him for a while. There was no sound from him for about 30 seconds and then all he could do was smile. Jim did get to make about seven runs in the Cobra at the airport on Sunday, both courses, so I feel comfortable letting him have it. Besides, he's safer than I am. I even got a chance to drive in the rain AGAIN ! My gas mileage varied by who ever was leading our little group. When MikeF and I drove I was getting 21 MPG, when Paul was leading I was getting 17 mpg. I'll get the car back here in Tucson about Sept. 8th or so. It was a great trip. John

John,
I wish I could have seen Jim's face when you told him that. Now I think you should just give him the car and build another one. This time do it in less than 2 years.
Are you having the car shiped back or is he driving it back?

I"ll fly back there in the end of August and spend a few days with him and the family. I will drive the Cobra back to Tucson, leaving there about Sept. 3rd. If I can sell the Cobra you know that I will build another kit car, however, it will be a 1953 Corvette. I stopped in at a '53 kit company there in Michigan the other day. They have just gone to a turnkey/ turnkey minus operation and got out of the kit business. As for the two year build time it was a time of extreme frustration with the FFR instructions, a time a understanding how little I know about cars, a time of great pride when even small parts were assembeled correctly, and a time of disbelief when the engine fired on the first try. Gosh it's good to be back in my own bed and the dry heat of Arizona. John

John,
I guess you'll never sell......
You gotta pat yourself on the back. You built it well. I mean you just travelled almost 2000 miles in it on a trip to the fling. Beat it up in the autocross- yes, I saw the spin out- and a few runs down the 1/8 mile.
