Default breather tube on valve covers

I just got a new set of cobra valve covers. The breather tube where you add the oil is 2 1/2 inches off the cover. Is there any reason it is so tall. Is it ok to cut off an inch or so?

The length of the tube helps reduce OIL splash from the moving parts like rockers, pushrods and direct oil splash from the rocker oiling. The extra length means oil vapor and air only will be at the cap. The cap has a medium that also stops oil and helps the vapor RAIN OUT the oil so you are not cleaning the V/C and area the rest of your life.

I was called and asked if this was so why don't my regular valve covers leak oil with a short or flush fill cap? Well the more STOCK looking covers have a baffle built into the area just below the fill cap/breather. This baffle is not present on the RACE covers because they would interfer or hit the stud girdles or high lift or a big rocker ratio. Before all this cool K & N stuff was available we used to braze a piece of screen across the bottom of the tube near the valve cover and then steal the plastic scrubby ball from the wife that she used to clean pots and stuff 2 of them in each tube.

I built baffles for my VC and bolted them in. I crowned the screws sticking through the metal with chromed acorn nuts, looks good.

See if there are two metal post on the inside of the VC. You may be able to drill and tape them for a baffle.

Just my $0.02
