Go to a local engine/ machine shop, they usually have dumpsters out back full of junk conrods and pistons. They just sell them as scrap metal.

AZ, glad you enjoyed my razzing. During the summer my first year of college I worked delivering engine parts for a local rebuilder/parts house and I made several sets of bookends from scrapped parts. Is this your idea?

Burnt pistons.... What are you looking for and does engine type make a difference. What are you trying to do or show? I run a TA/FC so from the sad reallity do sacrafice a motor from time to time. They would be noticably different from the average Ford part but think I can help with a few pieces.. Let me know if this works for you. Jeff C

This isn't any different than asking for steering parts.

I have a chevy con rod and a chrysler oil pan. Might be a little hard to fit that in a ford, but you never know.

Are you collecting parts or do you have something in mind?

Pat for me thats a Freudian kind of thing! Twisted and getting the shaft. Makes me wonder what the young man is doing looking for USED UP parts. We do sacrafice an engine if it is a do or die thing to make it into the next round but always hope nothing goes away. Kinda sick that we sell burnt pistons in the pits for 5 bucks when they were worth 100 bucks EACH 6 seconds earlier. This is truly a sickness that also manifests itself in the Cobras we all play with.

Vettestr -

Don't EVER try to figure out a cost per hour (or minute or second) on your racing equipment!

Why spoil it?

Pat Buckley

BTW- For a really expensive deal you should check out what the costs are to win in a slot car nowdays!!! I couldn't believe it! Thank god the races only last for a few minutes!!

I like everyone else wonder what you need them for. I have a cleveland rod that is bent in the middle from hydraulicing, and a 302 rod that had a pin come loose wore a hole in the cylinder and pretzeled the rod. Funny, but those well known weak factory rod bolts never let go.

Auto Instructor is not a kid, sorry for inferance. What parts are you looking for. How bout some hurt pieces from a blown nitro motor? out of an altered. It seems to eat parts. also have some pretty cool looking alky piston/rod combos that show what not to do!

That would be great... My teacher is like a kid though, and I also like to have car parts lying around my room... I have a Ferrari 360 Modena oil filter on my shelf from a friends car...and some other things.

Cool Bent

Hey AZ,
All I have is a crane roller rocker, and some bent push rods! Is this turning out to be a post of past screw-ups? Had 5/16 pushers, should have had 3/8, bent at 6.8K on the BB 429.

Don't forget old pistons make good ash trays! (if you smoke)

I hope that I do not have any more to offer to you, you know, with the price of gas and all......................

Brian

Wouldn't the ashes fall out where the wrist pins go?

The wrist pin holes (or what's left of them) make a nice cigar holder as well as ash tray....
