PIR mystery car??
A couple of my track buddies(Porche drivers) called me to find out who was driving the blue/white cobra at the NASA event this Sunday at Phoenix Intl Raceway. Seems like he started out in the steet car group, terrorized most of the Porche drivers with some fast times, then jumped into the race division. Anyone know who the driver was? Sounds like someone I'd like to meet.

I like to drive fast and terrorize Porche's too. Also, could use a few lessons.
Speaking of lessons...well...I guess we will just have to wait till the next track day if "Blackie" ever gets finished. What's the target date?

I think the cobra is aa FFR spec racer formerly owned by Nelson Garrison. The cobra is well set up by Nelson. I had heard he was running 1:15's which is quicker than most of the street cars. Bob Bacon's cobra has run a 1:04, I ran a 1:10 in mine. Too many walls at that track for me. Scott

I spoke with Clay and Richard (new owners of Nelson's car) and they weren't there for that event...so, the mystery remains.
I was there a few weeks ago and didn't have the cojones to go under 1:13. Can't imagine what it feels like to do 1:04. Who is Bob Bacon and what does he drive?

Bob Bacon drives a can am style hi tech cobra with a 427. To put a 1:04 in perspective, the stock car guys run 1:05 to 1:06, an M3 driven by Boris Said at the grand am race ran 1:04's. I also know that Don Roberts runs 1:06's in an original 289 cobra. I want to run there again, its been a few years and see if I can get my time down. But, a few of those walls are strategically placed if you spin. An original a 1:06 would be a good target. A few years ago, Gordon Levy was under 1:10 in my cobra. Scott

Have we found out who owns the car yet?
Jim,
If you get the chance watch Bob Bacon run.... I love watching Scott run, but Bob and his car are something else.

I have seen Bob Bacon's car on several occasions, just didn't know the name. The car was black with gold strips right? Last time I saw it, was after contact with some tires at the end of Firebird Main straight. That thing is really fast!
As for the mystery car at PIR, no official word on the driver. All I know is that he was about 60 with silver/gray hair. Come on Mike...fess up! It was you, wasn't it???
