September 25th. Drag Racing.
Posted on Club Cobra
Hello all!

I spoke with Dan Flynn (Speedworld Track Director) and we have a
planned night for the Cobras to race. We race on Saturday September
25th. Be there at 6pm for tech inspection, racing starts at 7pm. They
are going to assign us in our own bracket because we don't fit in the
other catagories they have running that night. (He said he didn't want
the street racers to complain about custom cars taking their trophies).

They would like to know approx how many cars plan to race.
If you plan to race please let me know via e-mail.

Also, their "Club Day" is scheduled for late October.
If all goes well on Sept 25th, we can Schedule the AZ Cobras to race
again on "Club Day". We can choose to run against each other or against
other clubs. (More to come)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here is a recap on the rules set for us:

1. Everyone must wear a helmet, long pants and they would like us to
wear a leather jacket (Sucks I know) but he did say that it can be any
leather jacket and doesn't have to be NHRA approved.

2. He wants to cap us off at 12.0 in the 1/4 mile. If you run under
12.0 then you will get one warning, but still be allowed to race. At
that time you will have to pull out early and calculate your time off
1/8 mile. Good news is you still get to drag, bad news is if you want to
see how fast you can really go, you'll get one shot at it. If you do it
twice, your gone.

3. Costs for this will be $15 dollars for racers and $10 for
spectators.

For those of you who have never been, here is their web link to get
directions.

September 25th.
Pro Auto Sports is offering a free day to run Firebird West for existing
members for any of the run groups that you would normally
participate. They are also conducting an advanced driving techniques class
for a fee.

October 30th....

From Jim Brey.

OK guys, here's the deal.

October 30 at Firebird West. This is another school like we did the
first part of the year on the East track. It is for all the folks that
did not participate in the last one OR feel that they would like to
review the course again.

This is an introduction to high performance driving open to street
legal cars and will teach you about car control and balance to make you
a better driver on the street and track. This DOC (Driver Orientation
Class) is an educational event and NOT a race. Timing and racing are not
allowed for this group. Instructors will be in the right seat, so
passengers are not allowed. Each student needs to have a car. The class
session begins promptly at 8 AM followed by on track exercises. Expect 3
to 4 class sessions and 4-5 track sessions (20 min ea). If you have
never done this before, you will be amazed at how fast your learning
curve advances. The early sessions will be slow, but by the end of the
day, you will have learned a lot and will be able to safely drive
considerably quicker.

Normal cost for DOC is $175 which includes membership to ProAutoSports.
Cost for the Cobra Club this day is....$75.00.
After completion of this course, you will be entitled to move into
different run groups for future events. "RED" group is the next step;
"Green" group is the advanced group. For all the folks that completed
the first school, YOU CAN Run with the "RED" group and practice what you
learned in school. Green group members are welcome too.

The West track is technical but a lot of fun. It has excellant pit area
(all paved) which is accessible to traffic without interfering with the
track groups as is required on the East track. It is also much better
for spectators too. You will need long sleeve shirts and a DOT or SNELL
approved helmet.
