Default union 76 gas card scam

Hey all,
I found a $4.95 charge on my gas bill for WatchGuard a theft protection plan. I called 76and asked why and how it was charged to my bill.
" 76 said according to records MY SPOUSE enrolled me in this plan. I said she has her own account and is not a signer on this one so how could she authorize any charges. 76 said all they could do is issue credit for NEXT MONTHS CHARGES but they would cancel now and I was responsible for current charge. Any other issues would have to be taken up with Watchguard.
I called Watch G. and lady said they are just a vendor for 76 and only Admin. and handle billing . She asked if they pulled the old WILL GIVE YOU CREDIT ON NEXT MO. BILL but had to pay current charge. She explained somebody was gettind a comm. on sale by me paying current charge and pointed out THERE WOULD BE NO CHARGE ONNEXT mo. bill if I cancelled as of date I called so was giving me NOTHING --- but lip service. That went right by my little mind!!!
To top it off when wife came home I explained it all to her and she said NO $HIT I JUST FOUND A $7.95 CHARGE FOR ROAD SIDE SERVICE PLAN YESTERDAY and when she called was told her husband must have ordered! BEWARE EVERYBODY....

Must be nice to be able to just make up sales and generate your commission. Just be happy they didn't decide you needed a full engine repair coverage.

To many frauds any more to hardly keep track of them. I get piles of mail every week wanting me to sign up for some kind of Credit Card coverage, Cretit Protection, and such.

Mulv,
It was Amex that alerted me to somebody using my card and sending to different address. FRAUD but was being commited by a bad guy not the card company!!! This was a couple of years ago but have not forgotten the hassle yet!
Our local PD would not partisapate in a controlled delivery to bust the bad guys. Stated they were way to busy. They did tell me they would not be to busy to bust me if I went over to the (ship to) address here in town to discuss how they got my card number!!! AMEX did say they would prosicute if cops would arrest bad guys .

Cool

Jeff,

About three years ago I had $30 dollar charge on my Master Card that I didn't recognize. I called the bank and asked them what it was. It was from some Credit Card Fraud Protection company that had somehow gotten my informatioon and signed me up. I told the bank that I would not pay it and referred it to their fraud division, then I called the Card Protection Company to find out how and why they had billed me for that when I had never even heard of them. Started with the same old we will stop it the next billing cycle and I told them I had already refused to pay it and it was turned over to the fraud division. They started to tell me that they would protect my cards if anyone got hold of the numbers and used them. When I asked who was going to protect me from them I got a real silent answer. Then they sent me a $30 dollar check to cover any inconvenience they may have caused. Never have seen or heard from that outfit again. But would still like to know how they got my information and signed me up.

No AMEX is worse!!!

I paid an AMEX bill for $524 with a check which they then proceeded to cash for $50024. I don't normally carry that in my checking account and so the bogus transaction bounced. It took me OVER a YEAR to get it straighted out with AMEX.

Discover has always given us great customer service.

Learn from my mistakes.

Just for fun and out of curiosity, I applied for a "gas" card with Chevron/Texaco last week.

College Girl asked me to do this as part of a project, competely legit.

Did it all on the Net, just a test, see what we could get away with.

Cards, in both our names, were in my mailbox yesterday, $600 limit.

Today I got Shell cards, both our names, $300 limit.

I also got a Chase CC with a $6,000 limit (!!!) one card each in our names.

I think... I'm gonna be very careful about my SSN online.

We have had a "Protection Agency" bill us and it turned out it was from a web site that we ordered something with and they were partnered with the scam artists. One of the few things Capitol One was actually pretty good about.
